The Millikin men’s tennis team won both of its matches in St. Louis, Missouri on March 25, defeating Missouri Baptist in a close contest and sweeping Webster later that day.
These victories improve the team’s record to 10-3 for the season and mark a successful outing as they continue their schedule.
In the first match against Missouri Baptist, Millikin secured the doubles point with Matthew Kordesh and Thomas Tartari winning 7-5 at No. 2 doubles, while Eduardo Vargas and Nils Fischer added a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, Vargas claimed victory at No. 3 with scores of 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 over Alex Meyer. Tartari won his singles match at No. 4 by scores of 6-3, 7-5 against Britton Struewing, and Jorge Aura earned a decisive win at No. 5 with sets of 6-0, 6-1 over Jack Duncan.
During their second match versus Webster University, Millikin swept all three doubles matches including Nahum and Aura’s narrow win at No.1 (7-5), another victory for Kordesh and Tartari (also by a score of 7-5), and Vargas with Fischer finishing off doubles play with a dominant performance (6-0). In singles action against Webster, Gillian Nahum defeated Eli Bartek in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). Other singles winners included Kordesh (6-0, 6-1), Vargas (6-3, 6-1), Tartari (6â3, 6â1), Aura (6â1, 6â3) and Fischer who completed the sweep with twin set shutouts.
The Big Blue are scheduled to return to competition on Thursday, March 26 when they face Southwestern Illinois College at Fairview Park Tennis Complex beginning at 11 a.m.
