Mt Zion Community Unit School District 3 Board met Feb. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President Todd Garner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Members present were: Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey.

The Administration present consisted of Dr. Travis R. Roundcount, Superintendent of Schools; Brian Rhoades, Associate Superintendent; Randy Thacker, Mt. Zion Intermediate School Principal; Julie Marquardt, Mt. Zion Jr. High School Principal; Cheryl Warner, Mt. Zion High School Principal.

The Pledge of Allegiance was cited by those present and led by Mt. Zion Intermediate School 5th grade students Braxton Rhoades and Kylie Ferguson from Mrs. Rotz’ class.

The Regular Meeting minutes of January 15, 2019 were approved as presented by general consent.

The Executive Session Meeting minutes of January 15, 2019 were approved as presented by general consent.

President Garner recognized the following individuals who requested to speak during Visitor Communications: (1) Stephanie Cooper regarding Show Choir truck repairs and issues (2) James Bond regarding School Board election members and the School Board election.

Mt. Zion School District Maintenance Director, Jeff Bagley, commented on the Show Choir truck repairs. Mt. Zion Jr. High School Principal, Julie Marquardt, announced the winners of the District Spelling Bee, and shared positive events happening in Mt. Zion Jr. High School. Mt. Zion Intermediate School Principal, Randy Thacker, introduced 5th Grade Teacher, Lindsey Rotz and two of her students: Braxton Rhoades and

Kylie Ferguson who provided Rube Goldberg project information via a brief presentation and video.

Jerry Birkey presented a motion to go into Executive Session at 7:32 p.m. Seconded: Jeffrey Sams. Roll call: Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, yea. Motion carried 7-0.

President Garner called the meeting to return to order at 10:28 p.m. Roll call: Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, present.

Dave Brandon introduced a motion to approve the personnel related items as outlined including: Retirement: Mary Gemar, Grade 2/Mt. Zion Grade, effective at the end of

the 2018-19 school year. Resignation: Jamie Dalluge, Playground Supervisor/ McGaughey, effective February 4, 2019. Employment: Barry McCammon, Custodian, McGaughey, effective February 20, 2019; Delaney Sarff, Volunteer Assistant JV Softball Coach, effective February 20, 2019 for the 2018-2019 school year. Employment of

District Substitute Teachers, effective immediately: Michael Bunch, Kip Chumbley, Andrea Cramer, John Heck, Tracy Kent, Yolanda Mabry, Anthony Piraino, Joseph

Strater, Hannah Thoele. Unpaid Leave of Absences: Kelly Bollinger, Mt. Zion Intermediate School, dock days requested from March 1, 2019 until March 8, 2019; Brittaney Hillyer, Mt. Zion Intermediate School, dock days requested from January 22, 2019 until January 25, 2019. Seconded: Nathan Brock. Nathan Brock introduced a motion to authorize the destruction and disposal of the verbatim tape recordings from the closed session meetings of the Mt. Zion Board of Education prior to August 2017, including specifically: February 21, 2017; March 21, 2017; April 18, 2017; May 2, 2017; June 19, 2017; July 17, 2017. Seconded: Kristi Niles. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Roll call: Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams,

Dave Brandon introduced a motion to authorize the Administration to advertise and solicit bids for High School Bleachers per the presented specifications. Seconded: Kristi Niles. Nathan Brock introduced a motion to approve a contract with BLDD Architectural Firm for facility improvements related to construction at the Junior High School. Seconded: John Flora. President Garner announced Tuesday, March 19, 2019, 7 p.m., as the next regular regular meeting of the Board of Education, to be held at the District Office, 1595 W. Main St., Mt. Zion, IL 62549. The Board of Education meeting was adjourned by general consent at 10:33 p.m.
