Village of Forsyth Public Library, Library Commission met Feb. 14.

Call to Order

Call to order at 1:00 p.m. by Mary Jane Linton

Minutes

Motion made by Pat Parr to accept the meeting minutes for the January 10, 2024 meeting. Seconded by

Mary Jo Rowley. Motion carried on voice vote; all members present voting yea.

Public Comment

None

Old Business

FPL Policy Manual potential changes were discussed. Melanie will do some further research with other libraries before the Commission votes on the Policy Manual.

New Business

Melanie has completed the Illinois Public Library Annual Report 2024. Each Commission member received a copy.

Librarian’s Report

• Coffee Talk has been very successful and is now a weekly offering.

• M-F Grade School and Decatur Christian School continue to use the library.

• Pam led a very interesting “Meet Libby” program to help patrons use the app.

• Story Time with Miss Jana continues every Friday at 10 am.

• FPL is offering a Tech Help program to answer individual’s tech questions.

• FPL and the Village is offering monthly Bingo in the Community Room.

• FPL will offer 2 drop-in crafts available for Valentine’s Day.

• Melanie attended a meetup for directors of medium-sized public libraries at the Shelbyville

Public Library.

• FPL is hiring a Library Assistant II/Circulation

• The library has purchased 2 new TVs to advertise upcoming library events.

• Village of Forsyth will be hiring a Historical Archivist position. This person will collaborate with the Library Director and report to the Village Administrator. The physical archives will be in a dedicated space within the library.

• Patron card registration as of January 31 includes 1,401 adults and 151 juveniles. The January 2024 patron count is 2,653 which is 301 more than January 2023. Circulation for January 2024 is 3,932 which is 556 less than January 2023. Materials checked out by Non-Forsyth Patrons is 1,536. Materials checked out by Forsyth patrons at other libraries is 310.

The next library commission meeting is scheduled for March 13, 2024. Lisa Peck moved to adjourn. Pat Parr seconded. The motion carried on voice vote; all members present voting yea.
