Niantic Fire Protection District responded to 20 calls in 2017 - 23.1 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Niantic included 19 fires - eight structure fires, two vehicle fires and nine other fires.

In all, the department saw $5,850 in fire loss - or about $308 per fire.

The department also received one false call.

The Niantic Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $100,138 in 2017.
