Sangamon Valley Community Unit School District 9 Board met Sept. 26.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

President Stephanie Guerrero called the Amended Budget Hearing to order at 6:00 p.m. Board members present were: Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, and Jeff Stahl. Absent: James Kent.

HEARING ON AMENDED 2018-2019 SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET

Cynthia Ervin moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to open the hearing on the amended 2018-2019 school district budget. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, and Jeff Stahl. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Erech Pierson moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to close the hearing on the amended 2018-2019 school district budget. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, and Jeff Stahl. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

HEARING ADJOURNED

Cynthia Ervin moved and Erech Pierson seconded that the hearing being adjourned at 6:02 p.m. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

CALL TO ORDER

President Stephanie Guerrero called the September meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Board members present were: Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, and Jeff Stahl. Absent: James Kent.

ADMINISTRATION

Also present: Superintendent Bob Meadows, Sangamon Valley Intermediate/Middle School Principal Brian Britton, and Sangamon Valley Primary Principal Bethany Wellbaum.

PLEDGE TO THE FLAG

Mr. Britton led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

VISITORS

President Guerrero recognized and welcomed the visitors. Visitors present were: Stacy Marksberry, Jarred Leeper, Amanda Lamb, Erica Thies, Will Bryan, Sierra Centola, Karina Forshee, John Gorecki, Joe Scanavino, Makayla Moran, Madison Kokal, and Mackenzie Kokal.

EYE ON THE STORM

Mr. Meadows introduced to the Board new teachers to the Sangamon Valley School District: Stacy Marksberry, Jarred Leeper, Erica Thies, and Amanda Lamb.

Mr. John Gorecki updated the Board on the recent Marching Band trip to Walt Disney World and thanked them for their support. Will Bryan, Sierra Centola, and Karina Forshee addressed the Board regarding their experiences on the trip.

Mr. Joe Scanavino updated the Board on the recent SAPP program trip to Spain and thanked them for their support of both the SAPP and GAPP programs. Madison and Mackenzie Kokal, and Makayla Moran addressed the Board about their experiences on the trip.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Glenda Weldy moved and Cynthia Ervin seconded the motion to enter closed session at 6:19 p.m. for the reasons stated on the agenda. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

CLOSED SESSION ADJOURNMENT

Jeff Stahl moved and James Kent seconded the motion to reenter open session at 7:10 p.m. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

CLOSED SESSION MINUTES

Glenda Weldy moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to accept the closed session minutes as read in closed session. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

RESIGNATION

James Kent moved and Erech Pierson seconded the motion at accept the resignation of Sherri Jackson as an at-will, benefited bus driver. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

RESIGNATION

Erech Pierson moved and Glenda Weldy seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Allen Ferriell as an at-will, part time custodian. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

RESIGNATION

James Kent moved and Cynthia Ervin seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Paxton Campbell as MS assistant volleyball coach. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT

Jeff Stahl moved and Erech Pierson seconded the motion to employ Tina Scott as an at-will, benefited bus driver. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT

Erech Pierson moved and James Kent seconded the motion to hire Ryan McVickers as a volunteer assistant HS boys basketball coach. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT

Cynthia Ervin moved and Glenda Weldy seconded the motion to hire Casey Acree as a volunteer assistant HS boys basketball coach. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT

Erech Pierson moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to employ Jennifer Centola as a HS boys basketball cheerleading coach. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT

James Kent moved and Cynthia Ervin seconded the motion to employ Carl Spath as the MS 8th grade boys basketball coach. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT

Jeff Stahl moved and James Kent seconded the motion to employ Ryan McVickers as the MS head girls basketball coach. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT

Erech Pierson moved and Glenda Weldy seconded the motion to hire Travis O’Shea as a volunteer assistant boys football coach pending successful background check. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

CONSENT AGENDA

Cynthia Ervin moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Mr. Meadows addressed the Board with an update on district transportation and food service.

Mr. Britton and Ms. Wellbaum updated the Board on the successful start of the 2018-2019 school year in their respective buildings.

Mr. Meadows requested approval from the Board to modify the district’s Faculty Tuition Reimbursement Program for the 2018-2019 school year.

DISTRICT BUDGET

Martha Leeper moved and Cynthia Ervin seconded the motion to adopt the 2018-19 district budget as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

DISTRICT TITLE PLAN

Erech Pierson moved and Glenda Weldy seconded the motion to approve the amendment to the District Title Plan. Roll call vote: Ayes- Stephanie Guerrero, Cynthia Ervin, Erech Pierson, Martha Leeper, Glenda Weldy, Jeff Stahl, and James Kent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

FALL FESTIVAL

James Kent moved and Erech Pierson seconded the motion to allow the Village of Harristown to hold their annual Fall Festival on the Primary School’s grounds on October 13, 2018. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

BLUE AND GOLD CEREMONY

Martha Leeper moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to allow Scout Pack #91 to hold their annual Blue and Gold Ceremony at the Primary Building on February 23, 2019. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

HALLOWEEN PARTY

Cynthia Ervin moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to allow the Village of Illiopolis to use the middle school for their annual Halloween Party on October 20, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Stephanie Guerrero reminded the Board of the second Board Policy Meeting on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 6 p.m.

Next Regular Meeting is scheduled for October 17, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the SVHS Board Room.

ADJOURNMENT

Erech Pierson moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion that the meeting be adjourned at 7:44 p.m. All voted in favor. Motion carried.
