Dewitt County Public Safety Committee Met June 11

Dewitt County Public Safety Committee met June 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

MEMBERS PRESENT: Lance Reece - Chair, David Newberg, and Christy Pruser were present. Travis Houser and Nate Ennis were present via teleconference call. Also present, Dee Dee Rentmeister, County Administrator.

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

SUMMARY OF DISCSSION:

• Motion by Pruser, 2nd by Newberg to approve the claims. Voice vote, motion carried.

• Motion by Houser, 2nd by Ennis to approve last month's minutes. Voice vote, motion carried.

• Sheryl Avery, Animal Control Administrator was present for the following items:

o Would like to purchase a new refrigerator. The current refrigerator is too small. Motion by Newberg, 2nd by Pruser to approve the purchase of a new refrigerator at a cost not to exceed $300.00. Voice vote, motion carried.

o Would like to carry pepper spray and or dog repellant. This would give her some protection in cases of aggressive dogs since most of the time she is responding to calls alone. Discussion on the difference of pepper spray and dog repellant and possibly additional training if carrying pepper spray if it had to be used on a person. After discussion, it was decided to have the State's Attorney determine which to carry.

o Need to purchase a new freezer. Air is somehow getting into the current freezer. Motion by Pruser, 2nd by Houser to approve the purchase of a new freezer at a cost not to exceed $600.00. Voice vote, motion carried. (Both the freezer and refrigerator will be paid for out of the donation money).

• General discussion on the upcoming referendum concerning the ambulance district. Need to begin putting together an RFP and be ready should the referendum passes. Also discussed how this could affect the current contract for ambulance service, if at all. Reese also asked the committee to begin thinking of what happens if the referendums do not pass.

• Motion by Pruser, 2nd by Newberg to adjourn at 7:45 a.m. Voice vote, motion carried.

COMMITTEE ACTION:

Approve the claims.

Approve last month's minutes.

Approve the purchase of a new refrigerator at a cost not to exceed $300.00.

Approve the purchase of a new freezer at a cost not to exceed $600.00.
