An ordinance allowing workers who are 18 to 20 years old to scan and sell liquor was passed at the recent Sullivan City Council meeting.

According to a report in the Moultrie County News Progress, the ordinance allows workers between 18 and 20 to scan or sell liquor "at conventional and package liquor stores." The ordinance was spurred by local IGA manager Pat Stinson, who told the City Council the previous liquor code presented a problem for the store because of the shortage of workers over age 21.

“We appreciate the City Council approving the ordinance change for us,” Stinson said. "This opens up a lot of flexibility for us."

According to the article, the Sullivan City Council also approved the sale of 17.3 acres of undeveloped farm land for $242,000.

The City Council will address a proposed levy and assessment of taxes from May 1, 2020, through April 30, 2021, with a "total appropriation of $30,613,600 at its next scheduled meeting.
