Rock Springs Nature Center opened its newest exhibit, More than Corn — Investigating Illinois's Geology — concluding a year of construction.
All the corn and beans cloud people's thoughts about the state's habitats and ecosystems, Rock Springs Nature Center Manager Alysia Callison said.
"But we do have some amazing habitats and ecological features throughout the state, so we kind of wanted to tell people about those and encourage them to get out and explore Illinois," she said, WAND reported.
Executive Director Richie Wolf had the vision to renovate the exhibit and upgrade the nature center's welcome space when he took over a year ago, WAND reported.
The pandemic added challenges for the Macon County Conservation District. Work was limited to a single person at a time. The project might have taken only three months, but the social distancing restrictions doubled that time, Shane Ravellette, the conservation district's operations manager, said.
The nature center is at 3939 Nearing Lane in Decatur, Illinois.
