Barclay Public Library District Board of Directors met Oct. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

President Jean Munson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Members present: Maria Dent, Katherine Brodbeck, Brittany Wentworth, Kay Mason, Pam McMillen, Laura Philips, and Michelle Sawicki (Director)

There were no remarks from the public.

BILLS/Grant bills: Motion by Laura, second by Maria to approve payment of the September bills. All aye

TREASURER’S REPORT

∙ The August, 2021 Treasurer’s Report was filed for audit as amended. 

∙ The September Treasurer’s Report (for the October meeting) was filed for audit.

SECRETARY’S MINUTES: Motion by Brittany, second by Pam. All aye

LIBRARIAN’S REPORT

∙ Fred Schlipf visited the library on October 11 to tour the building and discuss ideas for future expansion.

∙ Thirteen people received the COVID vaccine at the library on Oct. 6. 

∙ Michelle will be selling wreaths with the Lion’s Club.

∙ The library will be participating in Trunk or Treat on Oct. 23 and the community parade on Oct. 31.

∙ Open Meetings Act training may be available by mid-November.

∙ The board will evaluate the library director at the November 15 meeting. 

∙ The library was awarded an On the Road to Recovery Grant for $21,860 that will allow us to purchase a generator, new computer chairs, new chairs for the director’s office, new chairs for the circulation desk, a wall-mounted magazine rack, four outdoor tables for programming, and a second air purifier. The computer chairs are easy to disinfect vinyl and the circulation chairs are antimicrobial to help stop the spread of COVID. 

∙ Deanna Moore will be proofreading essays and compositions for students in grades 8- 12.

∙ Kaitlin, Cindy and Michelle attended the Illinois Library Association virtual conference. All employees are taking their yearly sexual harassment training by Nov. 1. Debbie, Cindy and Kaitlin took a Reference Solutions class and Michelle Positive Reinforcement webinar.

∙ November Programs

o Dinovember games will be available throughout the month.

o Blood Type Testing Kits will be available Nov. 15-22.

o Dinosaur drop-in crafts for kids (Nov. 8-20)

o DIY Gnome kit for adults (Nov. 22-27)

BUSINESS

∙ The board reviewed the first quarter financial report.

∙ Motion by Laura, second by Brittany to approve the Intergovernmental Agreement for Virtual Programming at a cost of $75 for the six-month pilot period. Roll call vote: 7-0 in favor

∙ The board reviewed the Routine Banking Procedures.

∙ Maria and Laura explained the new online evaluation tool for the Library Director. The tool will be available to view beginning Oct. 19, Michelle will submit her narrative to the board by Oct. 26, and the form should be submitted by Nov. 8.

∙ The Strategic Planning Committee will meet Monday, Nov. 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the library. 

∙ The Personnel Committee will meet Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 5:00 p.m. at the library. 

∙ The board reviewed Chapters 7, 8, and 9 of Serving Our Public 4.0 Standards for Illinois Public Libraries.

∙ Judy Henrichs was selected as Person of the Month for buying lunch for the staff. The meeting was adjourned at 8:22 p.m. on a motion by Brittany and a second by Laura.
