The Millikin baseball team's late rally fell shot with the Big Blue losing to Wheaton College 6-5 on April 5 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur.
Wheaton jumped out to a 5-0 advantage after four innings. Millikin got on the board in the fifth inning when freshman Tyler Gade doubled home Tanner Coleman who had singled.
Millikin trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning when the Big Blue broke out for four runs. Kyle Gibson opened the inning with a single and then stole second base. Gibson scored on a Garrett Fritz single to make it 6-2. A two-out error led to Millikin's next run before Gade singled home a run to make it a 6-4 game. The Big blue would take advantage of another Thunder error to pull within one. Wheaton's John McCraith entered the game and picked up a strikeout to end the Millikin rally.
Gade finished the game 3-4 with two RBI for Millikin.
Ben Weaver led the Wheaton attack going 2-5 with a double and triple. Matthais Haggerty and Kyle Wu each had two hits for the Thunder.
Millikin falls to 13-10, 0-4 while Wheaton improves to 6-12, 3-1.
