Women's Tennis Ends Season With Loss To Wheaton

The Big Blue women's tennis team competed in the CCIW Women's Tennis Automatic Qualifying Tournament on Friday, April 29 falling 4-5 to the Thunder of Wheaton College.

Millikin started off strong with a No. 2 doubles victory by Nikol Obradovic and Taylor Milholland, defeating Bethany Hoogergeide and Lydia Adams 8-4. The Big Blue picked up a second win at No. 3 doubles with Brianna Barconi and Destiny Galvan victorious over Sarah Backer and Lily Anne Van Ye 8-7, with a 7-4 tiebreaker. The Big Blue led 2-1 after doubles play.

The Thunder claimed the first 2 singles matches to finish at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, before Millikin got on the board. Willer claimed the Big Blue's first victory at No. 4 singles, defeating Backer 6-4, 6-3. Wheaton would then pile up 2 more wins to put Millikin's backs against the wall at 4-3. Obradovic defeated Abigayle Ahn 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to tie the match at 4-4. All eyes then shifted to No. 6 singles, Galvan and Lydia Adams would need all 3 sets and a tiebreaker to decide the outcome of the game, with Adams coming out victorious.

Obradovic claimed her 17th doubles victory of the season against Wheaton, which is a new Millikin record. She bests Sara Tomek's mark of 16 victories dating back 27 years to 1995.

Big Blue women's tennis concludes a record-breaking season with a final record of 15-5.
