Village of Lovington Board of Trustees met Aug. 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Call to order: President Roger Walker called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Pledge of Allegiance: President Walker led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call found the following trustees to be present: Dennis Garmon, Todd Hale, April Daily, Brittany Bates and Mike Young. President Roger Walker and Clerk Alma Fair were also present. Curt Clough was absent.

President Walker reported that Curt Clough has resigned from the board effective 8/8/2022 Guests: None

Minutes and action of Village Clerk

1. Discussion and action on July 2022 invoices

A Motion was made by Garmon and seconded by Hale to accept the July 2022 invoices as presented.

1. Discussion and action on July 11, 2022, Regular Meeting minutes

A Motion was made by Daily and seconded by Young to accept the July 11, 2022; Regular Meeting minutes as presented.

Treasurer’s Report

1. Discussion and action on July 2022 treasurer’s report

A Motion was made by Garmon and seconded by Bates to accept the July 2022 treasurer’s report.

Old Business:

1. Discussion and action on purchasing a street sweeper

A Motion was made by Young and seconded by Bates to purchase the street sweeper which is the 2005 one located in Elmhurst IL for $20,000.

2. Discussion and action on Fire Alarm system for the Village

To be on the agenda for next month’s meeting

New Business:

Discussion and action on Ordinance amending Chapter 1-Article ll- Village Officials Division Xlll-Code Enforcement Officer-Zoning Administrator, Section 1-2-116 Duties

A Motion was made by Daily and seconded by Hale to Amend Chapter 1-Article II – Village Officials Division XIII-Code Enforcement Officer-Zoning Administrator, Section 1-2-116 Duties.

Department Reports

Water and Sewer Report – Todd Hale

Hale reported on all the work that has been done for water and sewer.

Park and Special Projects – Brittany Bates

Bates reported Park Recreation when will. They also had the lunches donated for the week. The Fireworks committee are planning to have a Chili Cook off on October 1, 2022, to raise money for next year’s fireworks. The Timm Foundation meeting will be this Thursday, August 11, 2022, she will be attending and requested funds for park equipment and other items. There will be one more movie night. Halloween Trick-or-treat will be set in the next few months. Plan to add more lights at the park around Christmas time. June 9-10, 2023 will be the time to celebrate the Village’s 150 year celebration. Some of the activities will be - Pancake breakfast at the Firehouse on June 10 and a parade at 11am. Possibly have a carnival.

Police – Dennis Garmon

Spoke to the police officer’s about writing tickets and getting the money locally. Not really in favor of it. Chief Swisher has been looking at the vehicles around town that are abandoned cars. He has a long list - he just needs to know if we what to him to continue. Motorized bikes were also discussed, and Chief Swisher isn’t really in favor of requiring a permit for them. Police comp time was brought up with no action taken.

Streets and Alleys – none

Buildings and Grounds – April Daily

Houses that need to be torn down. – Police Chief Swisher has been doing the paperwork to get to the attorney's office.

Insurance – Walker

Fair reported she and Donyell Morgan met with Sage Hale and Alex Meyer from the Loman-Ray Insurance Group, LLC. The meeting was to go over items to compare with our current insurance company to see if we could save any money.

Presidents Report – Roger Walker

Walker reporting for Curt Clough’s position that there have been trees that have been cut down. Walker has 60 days to replace Clough’s seat.
