Men's Tennis Victorious over St. Ambrose, Falls to Oberlin in Hilton Head | Millikin University

The Big Blue men's tennis team competed twice in Hilton Head on Monday, March 20, first against Oberlin before taking on St. Ambrose. Millikin fell to Oberlin 3-6, then defeated St. Ambrose 8-1.

Against Oberlin, the doubles team of Martin Cardestig and Hasting Bjorkman defeated James Dill and Grant North at No. 1 in an 8-1 contest. The team of Rodrigo Laux and Cole Phillips secured a victory at No. 3 doubles over Shawn Lisann and Sebastien Naginski 8-3. Bjorkman tallied an individual victory at No. 3 with 6-4, 6-1 set wins over Lisann. 

In doubles play against St. Ambrose, the Big Blue swept starting with Clayton Maack and Theodor Wolf victorious over Gabriel Guimaray and Gianfranco Garcia by a 2-8 margin at No. 2. Phillips and Laux tallied the next victory at No. 3, winning 8-4 over Bennet Piotrowski and Greyson Piotrowski. The final doubles win was notched by the team of Cardestig and Bjorkman with an 8-3 win over Paulo Vitor and Brian Lelm.

On the singles side, Wolf added the first win with 6-0, 6-3 set wins over Garcia at No. 4. Bjorkman added his fourth overall victory of the day over Guimaray at No. 3. After losing 4-6 in the first set, he bounced back to win 6-1 then 10-7. Cardestig also added an individual win at No. 2 over Lelm. He fell 2-6 in the first set before winning 6-1, 10-7. Maack secured the next victory at No. 1 over Vitor, winning 6-3, 6-1. Laux notched the final win against St. Ambrose, defeating Connor Leibforth 6-1, 6-0.

Millikin will hit the courts for a final time at the Spring Tennis Fest on Wednesday, March 22 when they match up against Frostburg State University.
