FOIA Request Sent to Clinton City Council Regarding Council Members' Information on October 15, 2024

FOIA Request to Clinton City Council Regarding Comprehensive Information on Council Members on October 15, 2024.

In our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Macon Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Clinton City Council in Illinois. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and we asked for the information preferably in an electronic format.

The records we requested include a list of all council members with specific fields. These fields are their names, titles, years appointed, term lengths (whether they are serving a two or four-year term), and their term expiration dates.

As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that by disseminating this information, we can contribute significantly towards promoting transparency in local governance.

We also stated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional in the request. As per the FOIA guidelines, such waivers are often granted when disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest because it contributes significantly to public understanding of government operations or activities.

We await the response from Clinton City Council and will continue our mission to keep our readers informed about their local government's activities.
