FOIA Request to Decatur City Council Regarding Detailed Information of Council Members on October 15, 2024.
We at Macon Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) for specific records pertaining to the members of the Decatur City Council.
The requested information includes the names and titles of all council members, the year they were appointed, their term length (2 or 4 years), and their term expiration dates. This information is preferably requested in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination.
As journalists dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We have also asked for a fee waiver as media professionals given our role in disseminating this information to the public.
We await a response from the Decatur City Council regarding this request.
