The Illinois Republican Party have released a series of robocalls in the wake of the reelection of Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) as Speaker of the House.
Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) — who voted for Madigan — was one of the representatives targeted by the automated calls.
The firm, matter-of-fact voice of "Chris" charged Scherer with choosing Madigan over her constituents. He said she "voted to elect Chicago Political Boss Mike Madigan for a record 17th term as speaker of the House and extend Madigan’s reign over Illinois."
The caller continued by pointing out that Madigan has damaged the state, but Scherer voted for him anyway. The message concluded with telling voters that the only way to get a new speaker is to get rid of the legislators that support Madigan.
While announcing the implementation of the robocalls in a press release, GOP Spokesman Steven Yaffe lashed out at Democratic lawmakers for voting Madigan back into the speaker of the House position for a record 17th term. He referred to Madigan as "Boss Madigan" and called House Democrats "terrible and deceptive" for accepting campaign contributions from the Illinois Democratic Party, which is chaired by Madigan.
Madigan won the House seat in a 66-51 vote, with only one Democrat voting "present" rather than "yes."
