Decatur ranked 488th in state in lottery ticket sales for January 2016

The City of Decatur had the 488th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of January 2016 -- down 285 spots from its December ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Decatur was $24.34 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Macon Reporter, Decatur generated $1,783,058.50 in net sales from its 64 lottery retailers in January 2016, compared to $1,729,693.50 in January 2015.

The City of Decatur is in Macon County, and has a population of 73,254, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Harristown, Long Creek, Forsyth and Mount Zion.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in January 2016 was $26,102.87.

Decatur's top lottery retailer is Prairie Pantry located at 1645 W Grand Ave # 1, Decatur, IL 62522.

Prairie Pantry generated 5 percent of Decatur's January 2016 lottery ticket sales and 5 percent of Macon County's sales that month, which was $2,062,127.50.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Macon County in 2015 were Oreana, Decatur, Warrensburg, Maroa and Blue Mound.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
