Sullivan FPD responds to 30 fires in 2016

Sullivan Fire Protection District responded to 53 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the East Central Reporter.

The calls in Sullivan included 30 fires - 13 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 13 other fires.

In all, the department saw $898,000 in fire loss - or about $29,933 per fire.

The department also received 23 false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Sullivan FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 10 active employees and seven retired or inactive employees, was $195,886 in debt as of June 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,530 for every fire in 2016.
