Mt Zion FPD responds to 37 fires in 2017

Mt Zion Fire Protection District responded to 73 calls in 2017 - 19.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Mt Zion included 37 fires - 22 structure fires, two vehicle fires and 13 other fires.

In all, the department saw $72,000 in fire loss - or about $1,946 per fire.

The department also received 36 false calls.

The Mount Zion FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has two active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $2,631 positive as of October 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $88 for every fire in 2016.
