Mt Zion Community Unit School District 3 Board met Nov. 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President Todd Garner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Members present were: Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams (exited at 7:33 p.m.), Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey.

The Administration present consisted of Dr. Travis R. Roundcount, Superintendent of Schools; Brian Rhoades, Associate Superintendent; Gary Gruen, Mt. Zion Grade School Principal; Brandi Kelly, McGaughey School Principal.

The Pledge of Allegiance was cited by those present and led by Mt. Zion Grade

School third grade students: Elena Rivera and Justice Roundcount from Mrs. Larrison’s class and Lola Tapscott and Elijah Rockey from Mrs. Swartz’s class.

The Regular Meeting minutes of October 16, 2018 were approved as presented by general consent.

The Executive Session Meeting minutes of October 16, 2018 were approved as presented by general consent.

Board President Garner stated there were no visitor communication requests.

Dr. Roundcount recognized (1) Brandi Kelly, McGaughey School Principal who addressed social and emotional learning. During the month of November, McGaughey students have been busy writing letters of thanks to many people (firefighters, cooks, custodians, bus drivers, secretaries, etc.) Students from Mrs. Ditty's kindergarten classroom wrote letters of thanks to Board members, thanking the Board members for their service to McGaughey School and the Mt. Zion School District. The following students read his/her thank you letter to the Board Members: Rory Etherton, Brooklyn Roach, Ripken Rotz, Luke Sams, Ryker Schaefer, Reid Talleur, Hayva Wentworth. (2) A Pivot Energy representative presented information regarding a potential solar project in the Mt. Zion School District.

President Garner stated an Executive Session was not required. Jeffrey Sams exited the meeting at 7:33 p.m.

Dave Brandon introduced a motion to approve the personnel related items as outlined and pending background checks: Resignations: Brooke Heimerl, Junior High School, Assistant Girls’ Track Coach, effective October 19, 2018; Jennifer Pritchard, Mt. Zion Intermediate School, Playground Supervisor, effective end of day on November 30, 2018. Appointments: Brooke Heimerl, High School, Assistant Softball Volunteer, effective November 21, 2018 for the 2018-2019 school year; Mandi Jo Ditty, High School, Assistant Softball Coach, effective November 21, 2018 for the 2018-2019 school year; Employment: Cherish Bough, McGaughey School, Playground Supervisor, effective for the 2018-2019 school year; Candy Petersen, District Transportation, Bus Driver, effective November 21, 2018 for the 2018-2019 school year; Kenna Hutton, Junior High/ High School, Show Choir Volunteer, effective for the 2018-2019 school year;

Kelsey McAtee, Junior High School, Assistant Volleyball Coach, effective November 21, 2018 for the 2018-2019 school year. Nathan Brock introduced a motion to approve payment of the presented list of November 2018 Fund Warrants #24727 - #24885. Seconded: Kristi Niles. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Roll call: Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, yea. Motion carried 6-0.

John Flora presented a motion that the October 2018 Financial/Treasurer’s Report be accepted and filed for audit. Seconded: Dave Brandon. Discussion

took place by the Board and Administration. Roll call: Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, yea. Motion carried 6-0.

Nathan Brock introduced a motion to approve the Risk Management Program as a guide for the expenditures paid from the 2018 Tort Fund levy. Seconded: Dave Brandon. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Roll call: Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, Dave Brandon, yea.

Kristi Niles presented a motion to approve the estimated amount of property tax necessary to be levied for the calendar year 2018 as outlined in the chart on the presented page. Seconded: Nathan Brock. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Roll call: Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles,

Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, yea. Motion carried 6-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Dave Brandon introduced a motion that the presented resolution regarding the November 15, 2018 prevailing rate of wages updated for Macon County be approved as worded. Seconded: Nathan Brock. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Roll call: John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, yea. Motion carried 6-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Board members had further discussion regarding the Solar Panel project. Secretary Brandon shared a thank you note from the LaMar Gruen family. President Garner announced Tuesday, December 18, 2018, 7 p.m., as the next regular meeting of the Board of Education. The December 18, 2018 meeting will be held at the District Office, 1595 W. Main Street, Mt. Zion, IL 62549.

The Board of Education meeting was adjourned by general consent at 7:45 p.m.
