City of Clinton Council met Jan. 7.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Minutes of the regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Clinton, Illinois in session in the Council Chambers of City Hall, Monday, January 7, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Roger Cyrulik, presiding. On roll call, Commissioners Edmunds, Wise and Ballenger were present. Commissioners Crang was absent.

Written motion was made by Commissioner Ballenger and seconded by Commissioner Wise that the minutes of the regular meeting of December 17, 2018 be approved as submitted. On roll call vote, Commissioners Wise, Ballenger, Edmunds and Mayor Cyrulik voted “Yes”.

The bills and payroll were read.

Written motion was made by Commissioner Edmunds and seconded by Commissioner Ballenger that the bills and payroll be allowed as read and the Clerk be instructed to issue warrants on the Treasurer for the several amounts. On roll call vote, Commissioners Ballenger, Edmunds, Wise and Mayor Cyrulik voted “Yes”.

PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS

None

REPORT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS

Mayor Cyrulik reported that the City sent out letters to the local businesses wishing them a Happy New Year and reaching out to them if they need anything to let the City know.

REPORT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF STREETS & PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS

Commissioner Crang was absent.

REPORT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC PROPERTY

Commissioner Wise reported he had to miss the City’s Christmas dinner because of being out of town but wanted to wish all the employees a belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and he appreciated all the departments. He also stated the Water Department is trying to finish the installation of the new water meters and he doesn’t appreciate the comments people are saying on social media when they don’t know all of the facts. If they would just call the office at City Hall or the Water Plant their questions can be answered.

REPORT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH & SAFETY

Commissioner Ballenger reported the Fire Dept. ran over 700 calls in 2018 with most of them being medical and they had seven lifesaving calls that the Police Dept. assisted with. He also stated there is a waiting list for volunteers wanting to get on at the Fire Dept.

Police Chief Lowers introduced Officer Jostes and told about his background and his promotion and the City Clerk swore in Jacob Jostes as Sergeant of the Police Dept. Commissioner Ballenger stated that Jake is a go-getter.

REPORT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTS & FINANCES

Commissioner Edmunds had no report.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Written motion was made by Commissioner Ballenger and seconded by Commissioner Wise to adopt Ordinance #1497, An Ordinance Authorizing Sale of Personal Property Owned by the City of Clinton, Illinois (Parking Meters). On roll call vote, Commissioners Edmunds, Wise, Ballenger and Mayor Cyrulik voted “Yes”.

NEW BUSINESS

On File – MR System Wireless, LLC – Lease on the Water Tower

Mayor Cyrulik announced the next Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 due to Martin Luther King Day.

ADJOURNMENT

With no further business to come before the Council, a motion was made by Commissioner Ballenger and seconded by Commissioner Edmunds to adjourn the meeting. On roll call vote, Commissioners Wise, Ballenger, Edmunds and Mayor Cyrulik voted “Yes”.
