Meridian Community Unit School District 15 Board met Jan. 28.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Meridian Community Unit School District Board of Education held a regular meeting on Monday, January 28, 2019 in the Board Room. President Vicki Carr called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. The following Members were present: Vicki Carr, Tony Etherton, Monte Hogan, Marie Jagger-Taylor, Matt Roush and Chris Jones. Member Herbert was absent. Also present were: Dan Brue, Superintendent; Eric Hurelbrink, High School Principal; Andy Pygott, Middle School Principal; Lori Guebert, Elementary Principal; and Michelle Miller, Recording Secretary.

Mr. Hurelbrink announced first semester Board Scholars. A Board Scholar is a student who has earned a 4.0 GPA for the first semester of the 18-19 school year.

9th Grade: Lucas Clapp, Alexi Jones, Delaney Jones, Keagan Kantor, Paige Patient, Cole Rappe, Madison Sapp, Maria Steiling

10th Grade: Arwen Baker, Hallie Gates, Chloe Moyer, Jeremiah Renfro

11th Grade: Amber Coon, Jesse Damery, Madeline Klinger, Savannah Mendenhall, Ella Snow

12th Grade: Delaney Brooks, Hannah Craft, Erin Fasick, Oscar Garcia, Sydney Moore, Alexis Rosenberger, Matthew Sander, Sadie Scott, Samuel VonBehren

Mrs. Guebert recognized the January Students of the Month for the Elementary: K- Mila Woolington, Ruby Major, Brayden Moretti, Ronan Henne

1st- Aleeah Masters, Brynlee Henderson, Khloe Leffler

2nd- Evan Sutton, Jaxson Craft, Cash Beasley

3rd- Kaci Hayes, Emerson Wurster, Joshuwa Mayes

4th- Drew Smithers, Javin Lawson, Bronson Henderson, Reece Cramm 5th- Anna Mashburn, Lily Windell, Daniel Enlow, Melanie Burkhart

Students of the Month for the High School were announced as follows:

Madison Bingaman, Arwen Baker, Devin Walker, Paige Patient, Cole Boehm, Keagan Kantor, Reagan Hunt, Alli Hackert, Oscar Garcia, Lizzie Snow, Victoria Henson, Alexis Rosenberger, Jeremiah Renfro, Hallie Gates, Seth Barnes, Zachery Summers, Brogan Barnes, Candice Duncan, Gabby Bingaman, Justin Moyer

Mr. Pygott congratulated the 15 Middle School students who had art accepted in the Young Artist Showcase:

6th Grade: Haley Hanson, Haley Dukeman, Reagan Jesse, Robert Lasco, Lexi Marion, Emma Parks

7th Grade: Jasmine Lasco, Jolie Witts, Maggie Pritts, Connor Ryan, Christian Sheppard, Lucky Reynolds 8th Grade: Jacob Newingham, Roy Rolston, Eliza Morey

Administrators gave their reports: The elementary held their spelling bee and the top spellers were Charlotte Pritts in first place, Alayna Bickel in second and Gigi Pramuk in third. The district spelling bee will be held Tuesday, January 29. Mr. Hurelbrink congratulated the following art students for being recognized at the 2019 Scholastic Art Show through the Springfield Art Association: Trent Reynolds, Virginia Sheumaker, Jenna Jackson, Karrigan True.

Mr. Brue discussed the Solar Array Project. It is in the district’s best interest to not move forward with this project and to wait for the Solar for All Program to see if it would be more beneficial. There was discussion on the Ag Program. Interviews for the teaching position will take place this week. Mr. Brue and Mr. Hurelbrink are working on grants to benefit the program. The Ag Boosters next meeting is Wednesday, January 30th.

Mr. Brue was delighted to report that the district received a transportation payment today from the state. He then reviewed the monthly budget analysis. On a motion by Member Jagger-Taylor, seconded by Member Roush, the consent agenda was approved which consists of December minutes, financials and January disbursements as follows:

Education $566,624.09

Transport $38,100.46

Tort $10,928.81

Building $60,918.09

IMRF $19,586.13

Life Safety $875.54

TOTAL $697,033.12

Motion approved on a roll call vote 6-0.

On a motion by Member Jagger-Taylor, seconded by Member Etherton, the meeting adjourned to executive session at 7:27 p.m. for the purpose of discussing matters pertaining to the employment, appointment, or dismissal of specific employees or officers, purchase or sale of property, pending legal matters, student discipline, and negotiations. Motion carried with a roll call vote 6-0.

Member Roush, seconded by Member Etherton, motioned to return to open session at 8:48 p.m.

On a motion by Member Hogan, seconded by Member Roush, the Board approved the Principal Employment Contract between Andy Pygott and the Board of Education. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

The Board approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the Meridian CUSD #15 Board of Education and the Meridian Federation of Teachers on a motion by Member Roush, seconded by Member Hogan. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

Kirsten Durflinger was approved as an assistant high school girl’s track coach for the 18-19 season on a motion by Member Roush, seconded by Member Jagger-Taylor. Motion carried with 6 ayes.

Member Etherton, seconded by Member Roush, accepted the resignation of Jeanne Hulva as head cook. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

On a motion by Member Etherton, seconded by Member Hogan, the Board authorized the Board President to sign the Superintendent’s Contract upon approval by Member Herbert of changes discussed to contract at the January 28, 2019 Board meeting. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

The meeting adjourned at 8:52 p.m. on a motion by Member Roush, seconded by Member Etherton. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held February 25, 2019.
