Former state university employee Brinkoetter paid in $36K to pension fund, could collect $480K in retirement

Former state university employee Darbe Brinkoetter, who retired in July 2017, saved $35,515 toward a pension over 6 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Brinkoetter would collect as much as $479,708, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Macon Reporter.

The projection assumes Brinkoetter received $10,083 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Brinkoetter will have already received $42,183 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
