Mt Zion Community Unit School District 3 Board met May 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President Todd Garner called the meeting to order at 7:14 p.m.

Board members present were: Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Kristi Niles.

Administration present consisted of: Dr. Travis R. Roundcount, Superintendent of Schools and Brian Rhoades, Associate Superintendent.

The Pledge of Allegiance was cited by those present and led by Jerry Birkey.

The Regular Meeting minutes of April 30, 2019 were approved as presented by general consent.

The Executive Session Meeting minutes of April 30, 2019 were approved as presented by general consent.

Board President Garner recognized Kelly Giltner who addressed the Board regarding 2nd Grade class sizes for the 2019-20 school year.

Superintendent Roundcount stated there were no staff communication requests.

Nathan Brock presented a motion to approve the Second Reading of the changes for the Random Drug Testing Procedures for Extracurriculars as presented. Seconded: Dave Brandon. Superintendent Roundcount summarized the changes being presented. Roll Call: John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, yea. Motion carried 7-0. Jeffrey Sams introduced a motion that the Second Reading of the changes for the 2019-2020 Co-Curricular Rules and Regulations Guide be approved. Seconded: John Flora. Superintendent Roundcount outlined the changes being presented. Roll Call: Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, yea. Motion carried 7-0.

Nathan Brock presented a motion that the 2019-2020 Mt. Zion School District Handbook Second Reading be approved with changes as indicated and presented. Seconded: Kristi Niles. Superintendent Roundcount outlined the changes being presented. Roll Call: Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, yea.

Motion carried 7-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Kristi Niles presented a motion to approve payment of the presented list of Fund Warrants: 25623-25735 and Imprest Fund Warrants: 12589-12702. Seconded: John Flora. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Roll Call: Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, yea. Motion carried 7-0. Jerry Birkey presented a motion to receive presented paper supply bids and award contracts for FY 2020 paper product supplies as outlined on the presented sheets. Seconded: Dave Brandon. Roll Call: Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, yea. Motion carried 7-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Dave Brandon introduced a motion to receive presented custodial supply bids and award contracts for FY 2020 custodial product supplies as outlined on the presented sheets. Seconded: Kristi Niles. Associate Superintendent, Brian Rhoades, stated that awards for each item are chosen based on low bid and quality of each product sampled. Roll Call: Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Nathan Brock, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, yea. Motion carried 7-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Jerry Birkey presented a motion to go into Executive Session at 7:18 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the appointment/ employment/ reassignment/ leave of absence/ compensation/ possible litigation/ resignation/ discipline/ performance/ or dismissal of specific employees of the public body. Dave Brandon introduced a motion to approve the personnel-related items as outlined including: Employment: Kendra Abner, Mt. Zion High School, Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher, Effective for the 2019-20 school year; Jordan Fortado, Mt. Zion High School, Science Teacher, Effective for the 2019-20 school year; Jennifer Fultz, Mt. Zion School District School Social Worker, Effective for the 2019-20 school year, Derek Grove, McGaughey Elementary

School, Special Ed Teacher, Effective for the 2019-20 school year; Justin Johnson, Mt. Zion High School, National Honor Society Sponsor, Effective for the 2019-20 school year; Amanda Lamb, Mt. Zion High School Science Teacher, Effective for the 2019-20 school year; Janelle McCollum, Mt. Zion High School, Assistant Drama (Musical) Director, Effective for the 2019-20 school year; Grant Ryder, Mt. Zion School District, District Maintenance, Annual salary of $40,000/year, Effective July 1, 2019 or sooner (as needed). The following items were discussed during General Discussion: 1) In response to Kelly Giltner’s presentation to the Board during Visitor Communications, John Flora addressed 2nd Grade class sizes for the 2019-20 school year, and discussion took place among Board Members and the 2nd Grade teachers who were present. 2) Secretary Dave Brandon shared a thank-you card from Jean Drury. 3) Superintendent Roundcount distributed Frog Spit Lemon Lime Sherbert Pops to those present, so all could experience the popular food item that students enjoy and is awarded a bid each year during the dairy bid process.

President Garner announced Monday, June 17, 2019, 7 p.m. as the next regular meeting of the Board of Education, to be held at the District Office, 1595 W. Main St., Mt. Zion, IL 62549.

The Board of Education meeting was adjourned by general consent at 8:15 p.m.
