Illinois state Rep. Brad Halbrook wonders where Illinois might be without the benefit of some of the programs put forth by President Donald Trump.

“I advocate for his policies because they’re good for the people, good for the nation,” Halbrook told the Macon Reporter, speaking out against the impeachment efforts being advanced by Democratic leaders. “The situation with United Steel, putting those people back to work after several months. That’s one direct result of what he’s doing, people in Illinois are going back to work. The tax cuts alone brought another $1.5 billion into the Illinois treasury in April. Everybody benefits.”

In recent days, Democrats have amplified their cries for action, including some here in Illinois, based on the transcript of a call Trump had with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in which the name of former vice president and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was raised.

“I think it’s a waste of time and I think that we’re going to continue to see this effort on the part of Democrats, something new every few weeks and months to try and destroy our president,” Halbrook said. “We need to just let him be our president. I never protested our last president, I let him do what he thought was in the best interest of the country and I think we need to be doing that now.”

Now in his second-term, Halbrook serves on the House Government Transparency, Government Consolidation & Modernization, and Elections & Campaign Finance committees. His 102nd House District includes Champaign, Douglas, Edgar, Macon, Moultrie, Shelby and Vermillion Counties.
