Mt Zion Community Unit School District 3 Board met Aug. 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President Todd Garner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Board members present were: Todd Garner, John Flora, Kristi Niles, Dave Brandon, and Jerry Birkey. Board members absent were: Nathan Brock and Jeffrey Sams.

Administration present consisted of: Dr. Travis R. Roundcount, Superintendent of Schools, and Brian Rhoades, Associate Superintendent.

The Pledge of Allegiance was cited by those present and led by John Flora.

The Regular Meeting minutes of July 15, 2019 were approved as presented by general consent.

Board President Garner stated there were no visitor communication requests.

Dr. Roundcount commented that Brian Rhoades would be available to answer any tax- related questions. Dr. Roundcount also provided construction updates concerning the new visitor bleachers at Mt. Zion High School and the building remodel work at Mt. Zion Jr. High School.

Dave Brandon presented a motion to approve keeping Executive Session Minutes prior to August 2019 closed. Seconded: Kristi Niles. Roll Call: John Flora, Kristi Niles, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, yea. Motion carried 5-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Kristi Niles introduced a motion to authorize the destruction and disposal of the verbatim tape recordings from the closed meetings of the Mt. Zion Board of Education prior to February 2018. The range of dates included are: August 2017 through January 2018. Seconded: Jerry Birkey. Roll Call: Kristi Niles, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, yea. Motion carried 5-0. John Flora presented a motion to implement the revisions as presented to the District’s certified evaluation plan. Seconded: Dave Brandon. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Roll call: Kristi Niles, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, yea. Motion carried 5-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Kristi Niles introduced a motion to approve payment of the presented list of August 2019 Fund Warrants: 26084-26206. Seconded: John Flora. Roll Call: Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Kristi Niles, yea. Motion carried 5-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Kristi Niles presented a motion that the presented Financial Treasurer’s Reports be accepted and filed for audit. Seconded: Jerry Birkey. Discussion took place by the Board and administration. Roll Call: Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Kristi Niles, yea. Motion carried 5-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Jerry Birkey introduced a motion to authorize the contract for the District’s self-funded group health insurance plan from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020 with Consociate Dansig as the District’s insurance broker and the claims administrator. Seconded: Dave Brandon. Roll Call: Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Kristi Niles, Dave Brandon, yea. Motion carried 5-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

The Student Activity Fund Reports for the year ending June 30, 2019 were presented to the Board for informational purposes only. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration.

Jerry Birkey presented a motion to place the presented Tentative FY 2019 Budget on display and schedule a public hearing on the budget for September 16th, 2019. Seconded: Kristi Niles. Roll Call: Todd Garner, John Flora, Kristi Niles, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, yea. Motion carried 5-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

The documented list of F.O.I.A. requests received and responses sent by the District between February 2019 and August 2019 was presented to the Board for informational purposes only.

President Garner announced that an Executive Session was not required.

President Garner stated there were no items to discuss during General Discussion. Secretary Dave Brandon agreed there were no correspondence items to share.

President Garner announced Monday, September 16, 2019, 7 p.m. as the next regular meeting of the Board of Education, to be held at the Mt. Zion C.U.S. D. #3 District Office, 1595 W. Main St., Mt. Zion, IL 62549.

The Board of Education Meeting was adjourned by general consent at 7:18 p.m.
