Mt Zion Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education met Sept. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President Todd Garner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Board members present were: Todd Garner, John Flora, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, and Jerry Birkey. Nathan Brock was absent.

Administration present consisted of: Dr. Travis R. Roundcount, Superintendent of Schools; Brian Rhoades, Associate Superintendent of Schools; Randy Thacker, Principal of Mt. Zion Intermediate School.

The Pledge of Allegiance was cited by those present and led by Board Vice President, Jeffrey Sams.

Dave Brandon presented a motion to approve the regular Board Meeting minutes of August 12, 2019 as presented. Seconded: Kristi Niles. Roll Call: John Flora, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry, Birkey, Todd Garner, yea. Motion carried, 6-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Board President Garner stated there were no visitor communication requests.

Board President Garner recognized Associate Superintendent, Brian Rhoades, who provided a summary of tax appeals to the Board for information.

Superintendent Roundcount provided an update of the District’s K-12 Ten-Day Enrollment figures for the 2019-2020 school year, totaling 2,474.

John Flora introduced a motion to affirm that the District has reviewed Board Policy 7.180, Prevention of and Response to Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment, and that the policy complies with the requirements set forth in the Illinois School Code. Seconded: Jeffrey Sams. Roll Call: Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, yea. Motion carried 6-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

The Student Activity Fund Reports for the year ending June 30, 2019 were presented to the Board for information. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration.

Dave Brandon introduced a motion to approve payment of the presented list of September 2019 Fund Warrants: 26207-26399 and August 2019 Athletic Imprest Fund Warrants: 12736-12980. Seconded: Jeffrey Sams. Roll Call: Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, yea. Motion carried 6-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Dave Brandon introduced a motion to adopt the FY2020 Mt. Zion CUSD #3 budget as presented and summarized on the attached display. Seconded: Jeffrey Sams. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Roll Call: Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Jerry Birkey, Todd Garner, John Flora, Kristi Niles, yea. Motion carried 6-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

President Garner announced that an Executive Session was not required.

Kristi Niles presented a motion to approve the presented personnel-related items, pending a drug test and background check for new employees.

Associate Superintendent, Brian Rhoades, stated the July 2019 through September 2019 Financial/Treasurer’s Reports would be presented at the next regular meeting of the Board of Education, on October 15, 2019. President Garner stated there were no further items to discuss during General Discussion. Dave Brandon agreed and stated there were no correspondence items to share.

President Garner announced Tuesday, October 15, 2019, 7:00 p.m. as the next regular meeting of the Board of Education, to be held at the Mt. Zion C.U.S. D. #3 District Office, 1595 W. Main St., Mt. Zion, IL 62549.

The Board of Education Meeting was adjourned by general consent at 7:11p.m.
