SANGAMON VALLEY EAST ELEM SCHOOL: Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Fleming

K12 schools stock 01

Sangamon Valley East Elem School issued the following announcement on Feb. 18.

We all know Mr. Fleming as a marvelous math teacher and devoted dean of students, but he was once a kid just like us. He was an average Joe in school who was smart enough to not get in trouble. As a three-sport athlete, who played basketball, football, and track, he was very busy. Still, growing up he had time to do yard work, but mostly mowed the yard at a funeral home. He grew up in the quaint small town of Atwood, a town a lot like Illiopolis, which is the main reason he chose to teach here. He went to college at EIU to become a teacher, but he thought about becoming a criminal investigator.

Mr. Fleming chose to become a middle school teacher because “kids are hilarious,” and we get his jokes, most of the time. Though he doesn’t have a lot of it, in his free time Mr. Fleming enjoys hunting, golfing, and listening to his kids play Barbies while he watches T.V. We wondered if he had any kids or pets so we asked. He said, “Aren’t they the same thing?” But he actually has two daughters. A four-year-old daughter named Emma and a five-year-old daughter named Avery. He doesn’t travel much. The most travel he does is in between his kitchen and living room, but Mr. Fleming would love to travel more with his family. Back to the kitchen, he loves to eat a juicy ribeye steak with some taters and brown gravy.

Mr. Fleming may be a teacher, but his outside life is very interesting. Now we all know about Mr. Fleming, a teacher, a father, and a man who loves some ribeye steak.
