Blue Ridge Community Unified School District 18 Board of Education met May 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Blue Ridge CUSD #18 was held beginning at 7:00 PM in the Blue Ridge High School Library, 411 North John St., Farmer City, IL 61842.

I. Call to Order

Board President, Dale Schneman called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

II. Roll Call

Board Members in attendance were Carlos Burton, Kenna Dunlap Johnson, Dion Lathrom, Maureen Gilbert and Dale Schneman. Chelsie Leffelman and Franci Miller joined via video conference.

Also in attendance were Superintendent Susan Wilson; Principal John Lawrence, Principal Katie Nichols, Principal Ryan Peyton, and Recording Secretary Kristi Woliung.

III. Public Comments/Recognition of Guests

Mack King, Scott Stanifer, Hillary Stanifer, Dave Wilson, Lane Wilson, Paige Trimble

Board President, Dale Schneman opened with a statement congratulating and thanking Superintendent Mrs. Susan Wilson for her time and commitment to the Blue Ridge District and wished her well in her retirement. Mrs. Wilson was also presented with a card, flowers and a plaque from the Board of Education members. Refreshments were served during the video presentation collaborated from Blue Ridge staff, current and past Board of Education members, Larry Dirks and Jeff Funk.

IV. Communications

No communications were received this month.

V. Board Committees

The policy committee met via email to discuss the updates in this month’s packet.

VI. Presentations A. Fine Arts

The fine arts department produced a slide show displaying and highlighting their productions and achievements.

B. SRO

School Resource Officer Mack King presented his achievements throughout this school year. Mrs. Wilson also added how well SRO King is relating to the students and his active and visual role in the buildings is greatly appreciated.

VII. Administrative Reports

A. Superintendent

Mrs. Wilson presented her report and highlighted a few areas. Parents, students and staff were given a survey to give their feedback on remote learning. Alice Jones led the Backpack Food Program and is retiring after serving 10 years in that position. The Salt Creek Resource Center presented her with plaque. Also Pam Davis, Key Club sponsor, was recognized by Kiwanis.

B. Principals

1. Mr. Ryan Peyton, Schneider Elementary

Mr. Peyton presented his report and highlighted that Mrs. Weiler produced a virtual program for the 2nd & 3rd grade music program and to make sure to check it out.

2. Mrs. Katie Nichols, Blue Ridge Intermediate & Junior High

Mrs. Nichols presented her report.

3. Mr. John Lawrence, Blue Ridge High School

Mr. Lawrence presented his report. He highlighted that Jaton Shaffer was elected as Section 16 President and Gracie Myers-Nichols was elected Sentinel.

A. 1st Reading PRESS Policy Updates - Issue 103

The policy committee met to review the minor changes that were suggested for the PRESS Policy Issue 103.

B. Discuss for Approval Letting Bids for District Milk

Motion by Dion Lathrom 2nd by Maureen Gilbert to approve letting bids for district milk products supplied to Blue Ridge Community Unit School District #18 for the 2020-21 school term as presented.

Voice Vote. 7 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

X. Approval of Consent Items

Motion by Dion Lathrom 2nd by Maureen Gilbert to approve the consent agenda items listed on attachment A as presented.

Roll call vote. 7 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

Motion by Dion Lathrom 2nd by Kenna Dunlap Johnson to move from open session to closed session for the purpose of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees; ongoing, pending or probable litigation of the District at 7:47 p.m.

 Amber Barker, 4th Grade Teacher, BRIJHS for Blue Ridge CUSD #18 for the 2020-2021 school year, as presented.

Voice vote. 7 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

Motion by Dion Lathrom 2nd by Maureen Gilbert to approve the employment of

 Chad Acree, Assistant Girls Basketball Coach, BRIJHS

 Kelly Cramer, Title I Paraprofessional, Schneider for Blue Ridge CUSD #18 for the 2020-2021 school year, as presented. Voice vote. 7 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

Motion by Franci Miller 2nd by Dale Schneman to approve the employment of

 Carrie Painter, Summer School Special Education Teacher, District for Blue Ridge CUSD #18 for the 2020 Summer, as presented.

Voice vote. 7 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.
