Mt. Zion Community Unit School District 3 Board met June 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President Todd Garner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Board members present were: Todd Garner, Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Nathan Brock, and Michelle Shumaker were present. John Flora was absent.

Administration present consisted of: Dr. Travis R. Roundcount, Superintendent of Schools; Brian Rhoades, Associate Superintendent; William Rockey, District Curriculum and Technology Director; and Ben Davis, District Athletic Director.

The Pledge of Allegiance was cited by those present and led by Board member, Kristi Niles. The Regular Meeting Minutes of May 18, 2020 were approved as presented by general consent.

President Garner stated there were no visitor communication items. President Garner stated there were no staff communication items.

Dave Brandon presented a motion to approve the final 2019-2020 school calendar with the last half day of school on Friday, May 22, 2020. Seconded: Nathan Brock. Roll call: Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Nathan Brock, Michelle Shumaker, Todd Garner, yea. Motion carried 6-0. (See Book of Attachments)

Michelle Shumaker introduced a motion to approve the 2020-2021 Mt. Zion School District Handbook with changes as presented. Seconded: Jeffrey Sams. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Roll call: Kristi Niles, Jeffrey Sams, Dave Brandon, Nathan Brock, Michelle Shumaker, Todd Garner, yea. Motion carried 6-0. Jeffrey Sams presented a motion to approve the First Reading of Policy 7:190 related to student behavior. Seconded: Dave Brandon. Discussion took place by the Board and Administration. Dave Brandon introduced a motion to approve the First Reading of Policy 7:270 related to students - administering medicine to students. Seconded: Michelle Shumaker. Michelle Shumaker presented a motion to renew the District’s coverage to Liberty Mutual for the package of Property with Boiler and Machinery, General Liability, Auto, Crime, Umbrella, Inland Marine, and School Board Legal Liability; Worker’s Compensation Self-Insurance Trust (WCSIT) for the Worker’s Compensation; Liberty Mutual Surety for the Treasurer’s Bond and Assistant Treasurer’s Bond; Travelers for the Cyber Liability; and Gerber Life for the Blanket and Catastrophic Student Accident. Dave Brandon introduced a motion to approve the following 2020-2021 school year meal prices as indicated for lunch and breakfast: Grades K-3: $2.55/lunch; Grades 4-12: $2.75/lunch; Grades K-12: $1.85/breakfast; Adult/Guest: $2.05/breakfast; Adult/Guest: $3.25/lunch; Extra Entrée: $1.95/each; and the presented list of a la carte prices for the year. Michelle Shumaker introduced a motion to approve the First Reading of Policy 5:50 related to general personnel - drug and alcohol-free workplace; e-cigarette, tobacco, and cannabis prohibition.
