Argenta-Oreana Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Aug. 10.

The Board of Education of Community Unit School District Number 1, Macon and DeWitt Counties, Illinois, (Argenta-Oreana Community Unit School District No. 1) convened on August 10, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the Argenta Oreana Middle School/High School Cafeteria at 500 North Main Street, Argenta, Illinois pursuant to notice of regular meeting having been given in due form of law Todd Armstrong, President, in the Chair, and with a legal quorum as follows: Summer Boyd, Maria Lightner, Dick Logue (exited at 6:52 p.m.), Heather McConnell-Smith; Jeff Schroetlin, Lori Sprague, and Todd Armstrong. Also present: Damian Jones, Superintendent.

Summer Boyd/Maria Lightner, second, made a motion to adopt the Returning to School/Remote and Blended Learning Day Plan Resolution as proposed. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Dick Logue-yes; Heather McConnell-Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-no; Lori Sprague-no; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Administrative reports were presented.

Jeff Schroetlin/Maria Lightner, second, made a motion to enter closed session at 6:42 p.m. pursuant to the Open Meetings ACT – 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1), which permits a closed session to consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific certified and/or non-certified employee(s) of the public body. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Dick Logue-yes; Heather McConnell-Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-yes; Lori Sprague-yes; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Maria Lightner/Summer Boyd, second, made a motion at 6:53 to reconvene the regular meeting. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Heather McConnell-Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-yes; Lori Sprague-yes; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Lori Sprague/Maria Lightner, second, made a motion to approve July 13, 2020 Regular Meeting Minutes and the August 4, 2020 Special Meeting Minutes as presented. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Heather McConnell-Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-yes; Lori Sprague-yes; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Jeff Schroetlin/Maria Lightner, second, made a motion to approve payroll and bills. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Heather McConnell-Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-yes; Lori Sprague-yes; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Maria Lightner/Summer Boyd, second, made a motion to accept the resignations of James Dawson as ES art teacher and Kendra Robinson as HS special education classroom assistant. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Heather McConnell-Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-yes; Lori Sprague-yes; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Summer Boyd/Maria Lightner, second, made a motion to hire Heidi Hahn as Elementary School RtI & Academic Assistant/Paraprofessional and Amanda Mendez as MS/HS guidance counselor conditional upon and subject to the results of a criminal background investigation. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Heather McConnell Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-yes; Lori Sprague-yes; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Jeff Schroetlin/Maria Lightner, second, made a motion to approve volunteer coach Gwyn Jones for MS softball. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Heather McConnell-Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-yes; Lori Sprague yes; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Summer Boyd/Maia Lightner, second, made a motion to approve the Student & Extracurricular Handbook Changes as proposed. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Heather McConnell-Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-yes; Lori Sprague-yes; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Summer Boyd/Jeff Schroetlin, second, made a motion to approve the proposal to accept bids to fix the drainage issues at the bus garage for up to $40,000 as proposed. The roll vote: Summer Boyd-yes; Maria Lightner-yes; Dick Logue-yes; Heather McConnell-Smith-yes; Jeff Schroetlin-yes; Lori Sprague-yes; and Todd Armstrong-yes.

Superintendent Jones gave the FY21 budget presentation.
