Blue Mound Fire Department issued the following announcement on Oct 17.
This is a reminder that anyone that’s lives in or has property in the Blue Mound Fire Protection District is under a burn ban. This means there is to be no burning of any kind outside. This includes leaves, yard debris, and recreational fires regardless if they are in a fire pit or not. With the conditions we have right now, a single small ember can result in a big fire that will spread fast and easily. I apologize for the damper this may put on some of your plans, but the safety of our community is our top priority. I am hoping for some much needed rain to come in Sunday. If we get the rain we need, the burn ban will be lifted. Thank you for your support and understanding during this time. If you have any questions, please reach out.-Chief Hedges
There is an elevated fire risk today and high fire danger tomorrow. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect on Saturday for areas east of the Illinois River as a result. It will be breezy today with west winds of 20-30 mph, and quite windy on Saturday with south winds of 30 to 45 mph. Humidity levels both days are expected to range from 20 to 30 percent, so the threat of field fires will continue into the first part of the weekend. Any fires that develop can quickly get out of hand, as we saw this past Wednesday.
