A new, clean energy power plant is soon to make its home in Decatur, thanks to the innovation of Archer Daniels Midland and 8 Rivers Capital LLC, which are positioning the all-new Broadwing Clean Energy Complex at the ADM’s Decatur processing plant.
This is one of the first zero-emissions power plants and is slated to generate 280 megawatts of clean power.
“I constantly work to bring more jobs to my district! This is huge," Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) wrote in a Facebook post.
Scherer, who is a representative of the 96th District, graduated from Illinois State University and Eastern Illinois University.
The facility plans to store carbon that it collects one-and-a-half miles underground through a capture and storage system. 8 Rivers will be deciding on the investment by 2022 and will begin operations by 2025. Warwick Capital Partners LLP plans to work with Warwick Carbon Solutions for its financing.
The complex will include an investment of more than half a billion dollars in the Central Illinois region. It will add to a current carbon storage facility located in Decatur and is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and Archer Daniels Midland.
