Meridian Community Unit School District 15 Board of Education met Feb. 3.

The Meridian Community Unit School District No. 15 Board of Education held a special meeting in the Board Room, Macon Campus. President Chris Jones called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. The following Members were in attendance: Chris Jones, Clint Gorden, Kara Morey, Matt Roush, Monte Hogan and Adam Herbert. Member Kraft entered the meeting at 6:25 p.m. Also in attendance were: Andy Pygott, Superintendent; Eric Hurelbrink, High School Principal; Lori Guebert, Elementary Principal; Mindy McGuire, Middle School Principal; Kaleb Renfro, Athletic Director; Michelle Miller, Recording Secretary.
The Board reviewed and discussed the proposal from Dr. Tuan for Athletic Trainer services. Currently the district does not have an athletic trainer in place. The Macon Fire Department has agreed to cover athletic functions until a permanent solution is determined. There were concerns from the board with the length of the proposed contract and the cost. Revisions were suggested and will be presented to Dr. Tuan for review.
Member Herbert, seconded by Member Roush, motioned to adjourn to executive session at 6:58 p.m. for the purpose of discussing matters pertaining to the employment, appointment, or dismissal of specific employees or officers, purchase or sale of property, pending legal matters, student discipline, and negotiations. Motion carried 7-0.
The Board returned to open session at 8:05 p.m. on a motion by Member Morey, seconded by Member Kraft. Motion carried 7-0.
Brandon Windell was approved as volunteer high school boys’ basketball coach for the 2020- 2021 season on a motion by Member Morey, seconded by Member Kraft. Motion carried on a roll call vote 7-0.
Member Gorden, seconded by Member Roush, motioned to hire Kelsey Knopp as middle school scholastic bowl coach for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion carried on a roll call vote 7-0.
Adjustments will be made to the learning plan for the 4th quarter of the 2020-2021 school year. These changes will be announced soon.
On a motion by Member Roush, seconded by Member Herbert, the meeting adjourned at 8:08 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held February 16, 6:30 p.m.
