Blue Ridge Community Unified School District 18 Board Met April 28.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

A Special Meeting-Seating of New Board Members of the Board of Education of Blue Ridge CUSD #18 was held beginning at 7:00 PM in the Blue Ridge High School Library , 411 North John St., Farmer City, Illinois 61842.

I. Call to Order

Board President, Dale Schneman called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

II. Roll Call

Board Members in attendance were Carlos Burton, Kenna Dunlap Johnson, Chelsie Leffelman, Franci Miller and Dale Schneman. Dion Lathrom and Maureen Gilbert were absent.

Also in attendance were Superintendent Hillary Stanifer; Principal Katie Nichols, and Recording Secretary Kristi Woliung. Interim Principal Mary Diener, Interim Director of Student Services Lois Dowling and Principal Ryan Peyton were absent.

III. Public Comments/Recognition of Guests

IV. Recognition of Outgoing Board Members

Board President, Dale Schneman thanked Dion Lathrom and Maureen Gilbert for serving on the Board of Education.

V. New Business

A. April 6, 2021 Election Results

The election restuls were shared with the board.

B. Oath of Office and Seating of New Board Members

The newly elected Board of Education members recited the Oath of Office with the Board President.

VI. Adjournment Sine Die

Motion by Carlos Burton 2nd by Dale Schneman to adjourn the meeting sine die at 7:07 p.m.

Roll call vote 5 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

VII. Appointment of President Pro Tem

The Board hereby approves Dale Schneman as the President Pro-Tem. Voice vote. 5 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

VIII. Call to Order

Pro-Tem Board President, Dale Schneman called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.

IX. Roll Call

Board Members in attendance were Carlos Burton, Kenna Dunlap Johnson, Chelsie Leffelman, Franci Miller, Jason Nolan and Dale Schneman.

Also in attendance were Superintendent Hillary Stanifer; Principal Katie Nichols, and Recording Secretary Kristi Woliung. Interim Principal Mary Diener, Interim Director of Student Services Lois Dowling and Principal Ryan Peyton were absent.

X. Election of Officers

A. Nomination for Board of Education President

Dale Schneman was nominated for the position of President. He was the only nomination so declared President by acclamation.

B. Nomination for Board of Education Vice President

Franci Miller was nominated for the position of Vice President. She was the only nomination so declared Vice President by acclamation.

C. Nomination for Board of Education Secretary

Kenna Dunlap Johnson was nominated for the position of Secretary. She was the only nomination so declared Secretary by acclamation.

D. Nominate a Board Member as Represent on the IASB Governing Board Motion by Kenna Dunlap Johnson 2nd by Franci Miller to approve Chelsie Leffelman as the Blue Ridge School Board Member to serve on the IASB governing board, as presented.

Roll call vote 6 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

XI. New Business

A. Appointment of Board Members to Board Committees

Motion by Carlos Burton 2nd by Chelsie Leffelman to appoint the following Board members to the Blue Ridge Community Unit School District #18 Board Committees for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school term and the 2021-2022 school term as listed.

Chelsie Leffelman and Kenna Dunlap Johnson to the Policy Committee.

Franci Miller and Dale Schneman to the Finance Committee.

Franci Miller, Kenna Dunlap Johnson, Chelsie Leffelman and Dale Schneman to the Negotiations Committee.

Franci Miller, Jason Nolan and Kenna Dunlap Johnson to the Insurance Committee.

Dale Schneman and Jason Nolan and Carlos Burton to the Facilities, Grounds and Construction Committee.

Chelsie Leffelman to be the IASB Governing Board Representative

Roll call vote 6 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

B. Discuss Criteria for Hiring District Personnel

Dr. Stanifer reviewed the hiring policy for coaches versus employees with the newly seated Board.

C. Approval of Quote from A & K to Replace Insulation on BRIJHS Daikin and Lennox Units

Motion by Carlos Burton 2nd by Franci Miller to approve the quote for insulation replacement on the BRIJHS Daikin and Lennox units by A&K, as presented.

Roll call vote 6 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

D. Approval of Installation of Washer and Dryer for BRHS Life Skills Motion by Chelsie Leffelman 2nd by Kenna Dunlap Johnson to approve the installation of a washer and dryer for the BRHS Life Skills program, as presented.

Roll call vote. 6 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

XII. Closed Session

Motion by Carlos Burton 2nd by Franci Miller to move from open session to closed session for the purpose of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, dismissal of specific employees of the school district at 7:29 p.m.

Roll call vote 6 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

XIII. Open Session

Motion by Carlos Burton 2nd by Chelsie Leffelman to move from closed session to open session at 8:02 p.m.

Voice vote. 6 ayes 0 nays Motion carried.

Motion by _______________ 2nd by __________________ to approve the employment of Ryan Remole, School Counselor, Schneider Elementary and Blue Ridge High School for Blue Ridge CUSD #18 for the 2021-2022 school year, as presented.
