Meridian Community Unit School District 15 Board of Education met Aug. 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Meridian Community Unit School District No. 15 Board of Education held a Special Board Meeting regarding the tentative approval of the 2021-2022 Meridian CUSD No. 15 budget. President Monte Hogan called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. The following Members were present: Chris Jones, Becca Kraft, Monte Hogan, Kara Morey and Clint Gorden. Also present were Andy Pygott, Superintendent.

Andy began by going over the ability to apply for the school maintenance grant for $50,000, which can be applied to the middle school roof replacement. He also stated there is more money available in the ECF (emergency connectivity fund) that can be applied for and potentially used to upgrade and purchase Chromebooks and other connectivity issues for the district. ESSR III grant still needs to be applied for and can be amended for up to 2 and ½ years to use all funds. However, all money needs to be accounted for when applying and then amended as needed. It was asked for Andy when applying for ESSR III funds to use part of these funds for the middle school gym roof. Andy said he will but was not sure if these funds can be used for existing buildings. Member Kraft and Jones both noted from different sources including the grant application itself that these funds should be able to be used as this space is used for multiple uses and will improve health and safety.

Andy also stated he will be contacting Dave Pistorius for the re-servicing of the bonds as these still need filed with the county. Andy also stated that, as previously discussed and requested, the IMRF/Social Security balance should have approximately 1 to ½ years of funding and therefore the Levy may need to be adjusted to keep this fund at this level.

The budget will be open for amendment until Monday September 27, 2021.

On a motion by member Morey and seconded by member Jones the FY22 tentative budget as presented was approved by a 5-0 vote.

The meeting adjourned at 6:56 pm on a motion by Member Jones and seconded by Member Morey.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be September 20, 2021.
