Meridian Community Unit School District 15 Board of Education met Oct. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Meridian Community Unit School District No. 15 Board of Education held a regular meeting in the Board Room, Macon Campus. President Monte Hogan called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. The following Members were in attendance: Monte Hogan, Chris Jones, Adam Herbert, Clint Gorden, Rebecca Kraft and Kara Morey. Member absent: Roush. Also in attendance were: Andy Pygott, Superintendent; Eric Hurelbrink, High School Principal; Mindy McGuire, Middle School Principal; Lori Guebert, Elementary Principal; and Michelle Miller, Recording Secretary.

Communications from Audience:

Matthew Roberts and Matthew Tangney were present on behalf of the Meridian Ball Association to field any questions from the Board for the facility request submitted last month.

In recognition of Principal’s Appreciation Week, Mr. Pygott recognized Eric, Mindy and Lori for their hard work and dedication to their students, staff and parents they serve.

Elementary September Students of the Month:

Administrative Reports:

High School organizations along with Middle School student council are hosting a Trunk-or Treat event at the high school on October 24, 4:30-6:00 at the high school.

All school are participating in Red Ribbon Week activities October 25-29. FCS collected over 250 boxes of crayons and 50 coloring books for the pediatric unit at DMH. National Honor Society will hold its next blood drive on November 12.

Mr. Hurelbrink attended a meeting with area school to discuss the existing conferences. There is possibility of a new conference being created. He will keep the board updated as more news becomes available.

Superintendent follow-up items:

ESSER III grant- waiting for final approval.

Crossing guard position is active.

Working with bus sales representative for price quotes for both new and used buses. Request will be granted to have existing fleet appraised.

Maintenance grant submitted.

New Items:

Hytera radios- Area rep came to the district to check our existing equipment. Looking to maximize range and clarity.

Siemens Controls for HVAC- in contact with representative to maximize this system as well. District is eligible to apply for Digital Equity Grant (projected $67,160).

Mr. Pygott will keep the Board informed of the situation with Macon-Piatt Special Education services. They are not accepting new referrals as there is a staffing issue.

On a motion by Member Morey, seconded by Member Herbert, the consent agenda was approved. This includes minutes from September 20, 2021 minutes, September 27, 2021 minutes; September financials, and October disbursements as follows:

Education $221,661.22 Building $38,561.84

Transport $182,706.78 Tort $2125.00

Life Safety $658.53 TOTAL $445,713.37 (does not include payroll) Also included is the resignation of Greg Streeval as middle school softball coach. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

Current budget analysis presented.

On a motion by Member Morey, seconded by Member Herbert, the Board approved the FY21 Annual Financial Report as presented by Floyd & Associates. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

On a motion by Member Gorden, seconded by Member Kraft, the District Risk Management Plan was approved as presented. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

Member Herbert, seconded by Member Kraft, motioned to approve the facility use request from the Macon Fire Department. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

The meeting adjourned to executive session at 7:24 p.m. for the purpose of discussing matters pertaining to the employment, appointment, or dismissal of specific employees or officers, purchase or sale of property, pending legal matters, student discipline, and negotiations, on a motion by Member Morey, seconded by Member Kraft. Motion carried.

The Board returned to open session at 7:44 p.m. on a motion by Member Gorden, seconded by Member Morey. Motion carried.

On a motion by Member Herbert, seconded by Member Gorden, the Board approved Becky Hunter as crossing guard/bus stop monitor for the remainder of the 21-22 school year. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

On a motion by Member Gorden, seconded by Member Herbert, Brandy Dixon was approved as bus monitor. Motion carried on a roll call vote 6-0.

The meeting adjourned at 7:46 p.m. on a motion by Member Morey, seconded by Member Kraft. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Monday, November 15, 2021, 6:30 p.m.
