Millikin Baseball Wins at Greenville

The Millikin baseball team scored a road non-conference win downing Greenville University 13-5 on April 19 in Greenville, Illinois.

 

Millikin scored first in the game putting up a single run in the fourth inning. The Big Blue then broke open the game scoring five runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth. After Greenville scored five runs, Millikin added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth.

 

The Big Blue pounded out 10 hits and drew 10 walks. Kyle Gibson went 2-5 at the plate scoring three runs and driving home two. Garrett Fritz went 2-3 with two RBI. Andy Niebrugge came off the bench to go 2-2 for Millikin.

Tommy Shaw drove home two runs and scored twice.

 

Drew Detmers was the winning pitcher for Millikin allowing four hits and no runs in his five innings of work.

 

Mark Islas had two hits including a double to lead Greenville.

 

Millikin improves to 18-12 while Greenville goes to 15-15.

 

The Big Blue return to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action this weekend. The game originally scheduled for Friday, April 22 at Wheaton College has been moved to Thursday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Wheaton's field in Carol Stream.  Millikin will host Illinois Wesleyan University in a doubleheader at the Workman Family Baseball Field on Saturday, April 23 starting at 1 p.m.
