CALL TO ORDER
Vice President Nathan Brock called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Board members present were: Nathan Brock, Michelle Shumaker, Matt Beavers, Kyle Janvrin, and Kristi Niles. Board members absent were: Jeffrey Sams and Kent Newton.
ADMINISTRATION PRESENT
Administration present consisted of: Dr. Travis R. Roundcount, Superintendent of Schools; Brian Rhoades, Associate Superintendent; Billy Rockey, District Technology Director; Michael Mose, Mt. Zion High School Assistant Principal; Julie Marquardt, Mt. Zion Jr. High School Principal, Randy Thacker, Mt. Zion Intermediate School Principal; Gary Gruen, Mt. Zion Grade School Principal; Heather Ethell, McGaughey Elementary School Principal; and Paul Reeve, District Transportation Director.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Pledge of Allegiance was cited by those present and led by the following Intermediate School students: Arianna Williams (from Mrs. Gherardini’s 5th grade class), and Kenzie Hays (from Mr. Gherardini’s 4th grade class).
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
Matt Beavers presented a motion to approve the Regular Meeting minutes of February 22, 2022. Seconded: Michelle Shumaker. Roll Call: Nathan Brock, Michelle Shumaker, Matt Beavers, Kyle Janvrin, and Kristi Niles, yea. Motion carried 5-0. (See Book of Attachments.)
EXECUTIVE MEETING MINUTES
Kristi Niles introduced a motion to approve the Executive Meeting minutes of February 22, 2022. Seconded: Michelle Shumaker. Roll Call: Michelle Shumaker, Matt Beavers, Kyle Janvrin, Kristi Niles, and Nathan Brock, yea. Motion carried 5-0. (See Book of Attachments.)

Kent Newton entered the meeting at 6:37 p.m.
VISITOR COMMUNICATIONS
Vice President Brock introduced Theresa Lane who requested to speak about wrongful termination. Mr. Brock gave Mrs. Lane the option of addressing the Board in Open Session or Executive Session. She chose Open Session and provided Board members and administration with a letter she prepared and read aloud to address her concerns.
STAFF COMMUNICATIONS
Dr. Travis Roundcount 1) stated that no printout of Covid cases among staff and students was needed this month, since there had only been three positive cases since March 1, 2022 and zero cases over the last three weeks. 2) introduced Mt. Zion Intermediate School Principal, Randy Thacker, who shared a handout and presentation regarding Academic and Social-Emotional rebounds in learning at the Intermediate School thus far during the 2021-22 school year. His updates included: students’ progress with Star 360 Reading and Math Assessments, Response to Intervention programming, the Intermediate School’s new Homework Assistance Program, the Roving Sub Teacher who has been dynamic in helping with interventions when not assigned to a classroom all day, and curriculum enhancements in Science and Social Studies. Additionally, he explained the new Social Emotional curriculum being phased in at the Intermediate School, called “Second Step”, and how it is benefitting students in a positive way following the Covid-19 pandemic.
FUND WARRANTS - FEBRUARY 2022- MARCH 2022
Kristi Niles introduced a motion to approve payment of the enclosed list of Fund Warrant check numbers: 31070-31235 and Athletic Imprest check numbers: 13954-14098 as presented. FINANCIAL TREASURER’S REPORT - FEBRUARY 2022

BID AWARD FOR THE MT. ZION INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL ROOF PROJECT
Matt Beavers introduced a motion to authorize the administration to award the bid for the Mt. Zion Intermediate School Roof Project to Tremco (for direct roofing materials) for the amount up to $1,068,364.63 and to Industrial Services of Illinois (for roofing installation) for the amount up to $1,403,535.37, bringing the total approved project cost to $2,471,900, plus allowable change orders, per the bid documents. EXECUTIVE SESSION
Kyle Janvrin presented a motion to go into Executive Session at 6:53 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the appointment, employment, reassignment, leave of absence, compensation, resignation, possible litigation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, collective negotiating matters, and security procedures. Matt Beavers introduced a motion to terminate Theresa Lane, an at-will educational support employee, effective immediately based on the reasons set forth in the notice issued to her on March 11, 2022. GENERAL DISCUSSION
Michelle Shumaker shared two thank you cards received from Amy Causey (a 3rd grade teacher at Mt. Zion Grade School) who thanked the Mt. Zion Board of Education, Administration, Faculty, and staff for the sympathy planters that were delivered in memory of her mother-in-law (who passed away on February 25th) and her mother (who passed away on March 6th).
NEXT REGULAR MEETING
Vice President Brock announced Tuesday, April 19, 2022, 6:30 p. m. as the next regular meeting of the Board of Education, to be held at the Mt. Zion C.U.S.D. #3 District Office, 1595 W. Main St., Mt. Zion, IL 62549.
