Sangamon Valley Community Unit School District 9 Board of Education met Aug. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Call to Order

President Stephanie Guerrero called the August meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Board members present were: Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood.

Administration

Also present: Superintendent Bob Meadows, SVIS Principal Kristina Sommer, SVMS Principal Jonathan Downing, and SVHS Principal Jonathan Field.

Pledge to the Flag

Dr. Field led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Visitors

President Stephanie Guerrero recognized and welcomed the visitors. Visitors present were: Pete Brown, Jamie McClellan, and Britney Denton.

Pete Brown, from Bayer, presented a $10,000 check from the Bayer Fund for STEM Education for our Ag program.

Jamie McCellan from the Sangamon Valley Youth Basketball League spoke with the Board to discuss the use of facilities this school year.

Executive Session

Jeff Stahl moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to enter closed session at 6:06 p.m. for the reasons stated on the agenda. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Closed Session Adjournment

Josh Hilbert moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to re-enter open session at 6:24 p.m. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Closed Session Minutes

Josh Hilbert moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to accept the closed session minutes as read in closed session. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Jessica Browning moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Alisha Johnston as the Library Aide. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Resignation

Jeff Stahl moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Abby Schoolman as the MS Assistant Volleyball Coach. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Retirement

Martha Leeper moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to accept the irrevocable letter of retirement from Monica Clem effective at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Jessica Browning moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to employ Trina Wallar as an at-will, benefitted bus driver. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Martha Leeper moved and Stephanie Guerrero seconded the motion to employ Alisha Johnston as the HS Secretary. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Lori Campbell moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to employ Michelle Schall as the MS Library Aide. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Jeff Stahl moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to employ Amanda Harter as the MS Cheerleading Coach. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Matt Wood moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to employ Carol Stacey as the MS Head Volleyball Coach. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Martha Leeper moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to employ Mariah Gilbert as the MS Assistant Volleyball Coach. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Lori Campbell moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to employ Keith Hildebrandt as the MS Girls Track Coach. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Consent Agenda

Martha Leeper moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Superintendent’s Report

Mr. Meadows updated the Board on the 22-23 Enrollment

Mr. Meadows reviewed the FY23 Tentative District Budget.

Mr. Meadows updated the Board on the Pre-K Grant.

Mr. Meadows discussed the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Service Plan.

Mr. Meadows reviewed the Remote Learning Plan.

Board Policy

Martha Leeper moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to approve Board Policy 2:230 as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

FY23 Tentative Budget

Jessica Browning moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to approve the tentative FY23 school district budget. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

District Budget Hearing

Matt Wood moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to set the hearing for the FY23 school district budget as part of the regular board meeting on September 21, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Safe Return Plan

Jessica Browning moved and Josh Hilbert seconded the motion to approve the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Service Plan Resolution for the 2022-2023 school year. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

MS Handbook

Matt Wood moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to approve the MS Student Handbook as presented. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Roof

Matt Wood moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to approve Muehlebach Roofing to replace the roof on the outdoor restroom at Illiopolis for the amount of $1,975. Roll call vote: Ayes-Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Josh Hilbert, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Village of Illiopolis

Jessica Browning moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to allow the Village of Illiopolis to host their Community Halloween Party in the Old Gym at the MS on October 22, 2022. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

The next board meeting will be held September 21, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. There will be a Budget Hearing at the beginning with the regular meeting immediately following.

Adjournment

Josh Hilbert moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion that the meeting be adjourned at 7:49 p.m. All voted in favor. Motion carried.
