Rep. Dan Caulkins gave the citizens an opportunity to learn about the 1st Amendment through a Facebook live.
In a Sept. 20 Facebook post, Caulkins reminded constituents about an event discussing Amendment 1, and online access.
"If you are unable to attend tonight's town hall at Yoder's Kitchen in Arthur, you can join us LIVE on Facebook from 6pm - 8pm tonight,” Caulkins said. "This is a great opportunity to learn what Amendment 1 is all about."
Caulkins was first elected to the Illinois House in 2018. A Republican, their legislative experience includes serving on the Public Utilities and Prescription Drug Affordability. Caulkins is a state representative who resides in Decatur, according to the Illinois House.
Early this month, Caulkins wrote about Illinois Amendment 1 in a Facebook post. “Amendment 1 is the most important vote Illinoisans will take this election,” Caulkins wrote on Facebook. He also shared a discussion between Shannon Adcock and Ted Dabrowski.
In August, a petition to remove Amendment 1 from the November ballot was blocked by a Sangamon County Judge, according to The Center Square. According to the Center Square, "Amendment 1 would create a state constitutional right for employees to organize and bargain collectively through representatives of their choosing to negotiate wages, hours, and working conditions and to protect their economic welfare and safety at work. The case, Sarah Sachen v. Illinois State Board of Elections, was brought by parents and teachers from Chicago Public Schools and claimed the proposed amendment would unconstitutionally enshrine union powers in the Illinois Constitution."
