The Millikin wrestling team faced off against three nationally ranked teams at the 2023 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky on January 6. The 95 team event features the countries top men's and women's teams from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
The NCAA Division III bracket featured 24 teams. The Big Blue opened the event ranked #24 in the NWCA Dual Team Rankings. In its opening match, Millikin defeated #19 New York University 19-17. The Big Blue won the first four matches by decision with victories going to Zac Blasioli at 125 (8-3), Coby Haney at 133 (7-2), Jordan Carson at 141 (5-1) and Peter McCusker at 149 (4-1). Big Blue freshman Nathan Callaway then won at 157 picking up an important bonus point with a 14-6 major decision. After the Violets won four straight match, Millikin pulled out the two point team victory with freshman Leno Campbell winning at 285 by a score of 5-3.
 
In its second match of the day, the Big Blue lost to number one ranked Wartburg College 45-0. Millikin's Jordan Carson, who was ranked #12 at 141 entering the day, lost his first match of the season to top ranked Zaren Terukina of Wartburg. Millikin's Nathan Callaway came up just short of his bid for an upset at 157 pounds falling to top ranked David Hollingsworth 2-1 in a match decided by advantage time. It was Callaway's first loss of the season.
 
In the final match of the day, Millikin lost to ninth ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 24-14. Blasioli, who is ranked fourth in the country at 125, picked up his second win of the day defeating Tyler Klein 12-4 (major decision). Blasioli is now 12-2 on the season. Haney won at 133 pounds (11-5) to improve to 13-4 on the year. McCusker scored an upset win at 149 pounds knocking four fourth ranked Jake Burford 9-6. McCusker is now 17-3. Callaway bounced back to post a major decision win to improve to 14-1 on the season.
 
Millikin will be in action twice on Saturday at the National Duals. The Big Blue face #14 Wisconsin-Platteville at 9 a.m. ET. Millikin will then wrestle again at 1 p.m. ET.
