Q3 2021 Recap: 2 parolees from Macon County convicted of homicide set for release

There were two offenders convicted of homicide living in Macon County released on parole during the third quarter of 2021, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Macon Reporter.

The data shows both of the released offenders among the parolees were men. The median age of the parolees sentenced for homicide was 35. The younger parolee was a 21-year-old man sentenced in 2020, and the oldest was a 48-year-old man sentenced in 1998.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Steve A. Butler. He was convicted in 1998 when he was 24 years old. He is now 48.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
