Village of Lovington Board of Trustees met May 8.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
Call to order: President Roger Walker called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance: Walker led the pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call found the following trustees to be present: Brittany Bates, Mike Young, April Daily, Todd Hale and
Dennis Garmon. President Roger Walker, Clerk Alma Fair were also present.
Appoint new Trustee: President Walker appointed Keith Stanberry to replace the open trustee slot left by the resignation of Mitchel Leinard.
Newly elected Trustees and Officers Oath of Office: Clerk Alma Fair read the vote canvas for the April election. She then led all newly elected and newly appointed Trustees in the Oath of Office. They are as follows:
Trustees April Daily, Brittany Bates, Todd Hale, Michael Young, and appointed Trustee Keith Stanberry.
Guests: Bob Barlow didn’t request to speak, requesting to speak Mike Powell regarding the walking trail. He provided the clerk with what he had read to the board. President Walker responded to Mr. Powell’s request, and we will look into it further.
Dave Bowers requesting to speak – the Bicentennial Flag was to be moved to our new (current) building. The flag has been seen in the front porch of one of the Villages former employees and he requests the police go to the home to get it back.
Eric Shangraw of GFL requesting to speak purchased IV Container in January, the price of the service will be going up. He provided the clerk with the proposal they are proposing to the community of Atwood. For us to get a proposal we send them the number of homes and request a proposal from them.
Adjournment & Call to order: Young moved and Garmon 2nd to adjourn the old board meeting and call the board to order at 7:03 p.m. Motion Passed

Daily thinks we need to have a special meeting to discuss the garbage service for the town. There will be a called board on May 22, 2023, at 6:00 pm Daily will request proposal from several garbage service companies.

A Motion was made by Daily and seconded by Garmon to accept the April 2023 invoices as presented.

Department Reports
Water & Sewer Report – Todd Hale
Need a new aerator at sewer plant. GIS Maps were discussed. Daily suggested that a board member contact
IRWA to do the mapping. Garmon will contact Roger Nuxoll. Do we want to have a demonstration for the back trailer – yes as late in the day as possible. A couple of residents are arguing over property lines and our alley.
Park and Special Projects – Brittany Bates
Had our Sesquicentennial meeting and all is moving along as expected. We will have another meeting soon.
Police – Dennis Garmon
A Motion was made by Garmon and seconded by Daily to hire Jay Cark as a part-time police officer at the current rate for part-time officers and to pay for his training.

Garmon also proposed to send Chief Swisher to the lead homicide refresher course.
Garmon will have Swisher retrieve the Bicentennial Flag from the resident mentioned earlier.

The backhoe has been repaired again.
Buildings and Grounds – April Daily
Started cutting down trees in town and plan to plant trees around town.

The back window of the water department truck was shattered last week while driving down the road.
