Village of Harristown Board of Trustees met Aug. 15

Village of Harristown Board of Trustees met Aug. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Village of Harristown held a Special Meeting on August 16, 2023. This meeting was at 185 N Kembark at 6 PM. Present were Trustees April Bogan, Jeff Eller, Les Jenkins and Jay Trusner. Also present were Evelyn Deverell, Mayor and Jonathon Closs, Public Works Supervisor.

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Mayor Deverell. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.

The first item to be discussed was the need for a dump truck for the Village. The 2008 Ford dump truck currently owned by the Village has major mechanical and electrical issues. Jonathon Closs gave information on a new 2023 Ford 600 Dump Truck located in Indianapolis. This included the equipment, snow plow preparedness, salt spreader requirements and warranty of a new vehicle. Mr. Closs also explained his lack of results from extensive searching for a used truck to meet Village needs. Mayor Deverell stated that there is $111,000.00 in gaming funds for the Village. This amount had been used to make payments on the new Offices/Community Center before that loan was paid off.

After Trustees asking questions regarding the purchase of a new truck, Trustee Trusner moved to purchase this new 2023 Ford Dump Truck and a new Salt Spreader using Video Gaming Funds. Trustee Jenkins seconded the motion and it passed by a vote of 4 to 0.

The need to approve Teresa Acree as a signator on the Village bank accounts was discussed. Mayor Deverell stated that Mrs. Acree needs this to access bank statements, other banking information and to start the process for direct deposit of employee's checks. Trustee Jenkins moved, Trustee Trusner seconded, to approve adding Teresa Acree to the signature cards at Scott State Bank. The motion passed by a vote of 4 to 0.

The balance of Personnel issues needs to go to Closed Session. Trustee Jenkins moved, Trustee Eller seconded, to enter Closed Session to discuss remaining personnel issues. The vote was 4 to 0 in favor.

Open Session adjourned at 6:25 PM.

Return to Open Session was called to order at 6:50 PM.

Trustee Jenkins moved, Trustee Trusner seconded, to remove Andrew Weatherford as Village Attorney. This motion passed by a vote of 4 to 0. Mayor Deverell was instructed to send a Certified/Return Receipt requested letter to Mr. Weatherford. The Mayor was also instructed to advise Scott Garwood of Samuels, Miller, Schroeder, Jackson & Sly, LLP that the Village will sign the Engagement Agreement naming their firm as Village of Harristown legal representatives.

With no further business to discuss, Trustee Eller moved to adjourn. After a second from Trustee Jenkins, the motion was approved by a vote of 4 to 0. The meeting was adjourned at 7:05 PM.
