Maroa Forsyth Community Unit School District 2 Board of Education met Oct. 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1. Call to Order- 6:30pm 

2. Roll Call - Present-Feinstein, Wise, Conway, Parker 

3. Good News 

Absent -Lidy, Zuniga, Crawford 

a. Madyson Durbin- Elementary Student Council President- This year there are 18 members of Student Council and it's made up of 4th and 5th graders. They celebrate teachers and staff with the woohoo wagon, distribute pickles and popcorn and help with monthly fundraisers like sales of blow pops, penny wars, ringing the bells with the Salvation Army and the great kindness challenge. 

4. Guests and Visitors 

a. Diane Daggett- our retired Family and Consumer Science teacher requesting to reinstate the class and FCCLA. Diane believes this program teaches students life skills and makes them become better adults in our community. 

b. Johnathan Wintermeyer- Agrees the FCS class should return full time, but wants to address the structure requiring pre-requisite classes taken at a Freshmen and Sophomore level. He feels this gives the Junior and Senior students a disadvantage as they won't be able to take specific classes. Mr. Stewart explained the course outline and how it wouldn't hinder students of any grade to take classes. There are only a few that require pre-requisite classes. 

5. Consent Agenda - Motion by Conway and seconded by Wise to approve the consent agenda as presented. Vote 4-0 in favor 

Approve the minutes of September 12,18, 2023 regular and closed session and the October 5, 16,17, 2023 Special Board Meeting 

Approve the financial report. 

Approve the bills as presented. 

Approve the destruction of closed session minutes that are 18 months or older. 

Approve the leave of absence of Riley Boysen third grade teacher. 

Accept the resignation of Jon Kidd as High School Head Softball Coach. 

Approve Maternity Leave Request for Ashley Stevenson. 

Approve Jill Wiekle as a bus aide effective immediately. 

6. New Business 

Review of Annual Summative Designation- No motion 

Safety Upgrades- Brice Stewart- No Motion 

Strategic Plan Update- No Motion 

Motion by Parker seconded by Feinstein to set Monday, October 30, 3023 at 6:00 pm for special board meeting. Vote in favor 4-0. 

Audit and Financial Profile- Informational 

Motion by Feinstein seconded by Parker to approve the resolution with the Village of Forsyth for the use of Forsyth Park Baseball and Softball Diamonds at a cost of $10,500. Vote 3-0-1 in favor. 

Motion by Conway seconded by Feinstein to the resolution to move site/construction funds to operations and maintenance fund in the amount of $2,694,729.09. Vote 4-0 in favor. 

7. Old Business 

a. Principal/ AD report- No Motion. No questions. 

b. IASB Liaison Report- Jill- No Motion. October 3-30 will be the Division Meetings. c. Motion by Wise seconded by Conway to reinstate the Family and consumer Science program and direct administrative staff to seek staff to teach the program. Vote 4-0 in favor. d. Update on Activity Bus- Informational- we have 14 MS students interested in Wrestling @ WL. The bus will leave at 2:55pm to get there at 3:15pm. Parents will have to pick up. e. Motion by Conway seconded by Wise to approve board policy updates issue 112. Vote 4-0 in favor. 

f. Appreciation Dinner- November 8, Middle School Cafeteria and Auditorium. No Motion. g. Motion by Parker seconded by Wise to table the solar project (depending outcome of variance hearing and / or village of Forsyth board meeting) lighting project at the high school, including the parking lot and the grade school building including parking lot, in the sum of $2,771,000.00. Vote 4-0 in favor of tabling the motion. 

h. Motion by Wise seconded by Feinstein to approve the purchase and install a Nevco Scoreboard for the football field at a cost of $136,480.00. Vote 4-0 in favor. 

8. Executive Session 

Motion by Parker seconded by Feinstein to enter into closed session at 8:15pm, for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, dismissal, or performance of specific employees of the public body pursuant to Section ILS 120/2©(1). Student discipline. 5 ILCS 120/2© (9) Vote 4-0 in favor. 

Motion by Feinstein seconded by Conway to exit closed session at 8:51 pm. Vote 4-0 in favor. 

9. Adjournment - Motion by Feinstein and seconded by Conway to adjourn at 8:51 pm. Vote 4-0 in favor.
