Maroa Forsyth Community Unit School District 2 Board of Education met Dec. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1. Call to Order- 6:31pm

2. Roll Call - Present -Wise, Conway, Parker, Crawford

Absent - Feinstein, Lidy, Zuniga

3. Review of the Tax Levy- Leo Johnson- no changes to Levy

4. Public Comment- N/A

5. Close the Truth in Taxation Hearing

Agenda

1. Good News- No Motion

a. Klaire Eighner- Cross Country State Qualifier. Not present at the meeting, but Phil stated she returned to Peoria for the 2nd year. She completed the course this year in 18:30 which was a PR.

b. Greyson Applebee and Gehrig Bunslmeyer- FFA National Award Winners- this year they took 4th place at National Convention. Additionally, they were selected for the second year in a row to present in the showcase in front of industry professionals and their peers.

c. Grant Simmons and Kelci Kahler- SAR/DAR award winners- Grant is the President of the FFA, National Honor society, PAC and a member of the Golf team. Kelci is a member of the Volleyball team, Softball team, Student Council, National Honor Society and PAC.

d. Veterans Day Assembly- Dr. Holmes wants to give credit to all involved in providing a tremendous day for our veterans.

4. Guests and Visitors- No Motion

a. Pastor Mary Alice Cunningham- wanted to bring to everyone's attention that Stoy Bliss passed away last Wednesday. He was proud of Maroa-Forsyth High School and loved passing out awards for the American Legion. The services will be December 2nd at 10am at the church.

5. Consent Agenda - Motion by Conway and seconded by Zuniga to approve the consent agenda as presented. Vote 6-0 in favor

Approve the minutes of the October 23, 2023 regular and closed session and the October 30 and November 2, 2023 Special Board Meetings.

Approve the financial report.

Approve the bills as presented.

Approve the destruction of closed session minutes that are 18 months or older.

Accept the resignation of Michael Bantz as Middle School basketball coach.

Accept the resignation of Dianna Coombs as School District Bus Driver.

Approve Leave of Absence for Heather Ohlymeyer.

Approve Matt Riley as Middle School Boys Basketball Coach.

Approve Marissah Cook as middle school volleyball assistant coach.

Approve Selina Finck as head HS softball coach.

Approve Camryn Skundberg as HS assistant softball coach.

6. New Business

a. Review of Annual School Report Card- No motion- All 3 building Principals reported on the school report cards individually.

b. SRO- Maroa Chief Bobby Fitzgerald- No Motion- Updated the Board on hiring Police Officers and placing SRO positions in the school. Dr. Holmes stated he spoke with Jill Applebee and the Village might be able to offset cost of having one in Grade School in addition to MS/HS.

c. Tentative Levy- Leo- No Motion

Motion by Wise seconded by Conway to set put the Maroa-Forsyth CUSD 2 tentative levy on review. Vote in favor 6-0.

Motion by Conway seconded by Lidy to set Monday, December 18, 2023 at 6:30pm for a Truth in Taxation Hearing. Vote in favor 6-0.

d. Senior Trip- Motion by Zuniga seconded by Lidy to approve the Class of 2024 Senior Trip to Wisconsin Dells on March 4-5, 2024. Vote in favor 6-0.

e. Motion by Conway seconded by Parker to place on review the IASB Press Policy Issue 113. Vote in favor 6-0.

f. Motion by Zuniga seconded by Lidy to approve the construction of the pavilion, concrete pad and path to the pavilion at a cost of $59,631 of which $30,000 will be paid for by a donation to the Maroa-Forsyth CUSD 2- Foundation. Vote in favor 5-0-1.

7. Old Business

a. Principal/ AD report- No Motion. No questions.

b. IASB Liaison Report- Jill- No Motion. Jill.

c. Motion by Zuniga seconded by Crawford to approve the lighting project at the high school, including the parking lot and the grade school building and parking lot, for the sum of $552,00. Roll Call Vote. Vote in favor 6-0.

d. Motion by Conway seconded by Parker to approve the Illinois State Board of Education Maintenance Grant in the amount of $50,000. The grant will be used for the lighting project at the grade school and high school. Voice Vote. Vote in favor 6-0.

8. Executive Session

Motion by Wise seconded by Parker to enter into closed session at 8:00pm, for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, dismissal, or performance of specific employees of the public body pursuant to Section ILS 120/2©(1). Student discipline. 5 ILCS 120/20 (9) Vote 6-0 in favor.

Feinstein joined meeting via phone call at 8:03pm

Motion by Lidy seconded by Zuniga to exit closed session at 8:05pm. Roll Call Vote. Vote in favor 7-0.

Motion by Zuniga seconded by Parker to approve the hiring and contract of Adam Ibottson as the Superintendent of Schools for the Maroa-Forsyth School District effective July 1, 2024. Roll Call Vote. Vote in favor 7-0.

9. Adjournment - Motion by Lidy and seconded by Wise to adjourn at 8:09 pm. Vote 7-0 in favor.
