Committee Work Continues in Springfield as Representative Caulkins provides updates on recent legislative activities. According to Caulkins, "Thousands of bills have been filed and are in committee, but only a small number have been considered and voted on so far." Last week saw a significant number of bills passing out of committees, with a notable lack of Republican-sponsored bills gaining approval.

In terms of population decline, Illinois faced its 10th consecutive year of decrease in 2023. Caulkins emphasized the severity of the situation by stating, "EVERY METROPOLITAN AREA IN THE STATE LOST RESIDENTS!" Citing the Illinois Policy Institute, the representative questioned, "Why Are We Such Slow Learners?" and highlighted the need for change to reverse the trend.

Addressing the issue of unfunded mandates, Caulkins raised concerns about proposed requirements by Illinois Democrats to establish a "clean transportation standard." Reflecting on the financial burden faced by Illinoisans due to previous tax increases, Caulkins warned, "Illinoisans simply can’t afford yet another tax burden."

As the spring equinox marks the beginning of a new season, Caulkins shared information about the significance of the event.
