Sangamon Valley Community Unit School District 9 Board of Education met Feb. 28.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Call to Order

President Stephanie Guerrero called the February meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Board members present were: Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. Absent: Josh Hilbert.

Administration

Also present: Superintendent Bob Meadows, SVP Principal Hilda Rice, SVI Principal Kristina Sommer, SVMS Principal Jonathan Downing, and SVHS Principal Jonathan Field.

Pledge to the Flag

Mr. Meadows led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Recognition of Visitors

President Guerrero welcomed the visitors. Visitors present were Deana Moore and Kyline Burge.

Deana Moore presented to the Board a proposal for a Summer 2025 Fine Arts Trip.

Hearing Officer

Jeff Stahl moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to appoint Stephanie Guerrero as hearing officer for the pre-termination. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Executive Session

Jessica Browning moved and Jeff Stahl seconded the motion to enter closed session at 6:19 p.m. for the reasons stated on the agenda. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Closed Session Adjournment

Jessica Browning moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to re-enter open session at 6:55 p.m. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Closed Session Minutes

Matt Wood moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to accept the closed session minutes as read in closed session. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Termination

Martha Leeper moved and Stephanie Guerrero seconded the motion to terminate Megan Rohr as a benefited bus driver effective Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Retirement

Matt Wood moved and Martha Leeper seconded the motion to accept the retirement of Tina Gwin as Primary Lead Cook effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Jeff Stahl moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to employ Amber Balfour as the Administrative Assistant/Human Resource person to the Superintendent effective March 18, 2024. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Employment

Jessica Browning moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to employ Amber Hankla as the High School Secretary effective February 20, 2024. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Consent Agenda

Matt Wood moved and Jessica Browning second the motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Superintendent’s Report

Mr. Meadows discussed the following items with the Board:

HS Doors

Matt Wood moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to approve the bid from United Glass for the installation of new interior doors for the high school cafeteria and gymnasium entrances for the amount of $14,616. Roll call vote:Jessica Browning, Lori Campbell, Stephanie Guerrero, Martha Leeper, Jeff Stahl, and Matt Wood. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Job Description

Martha Leeper moved and Stephanie Guerrero seconded the motion to approve the job description for the Administrative Assistant/Human Resource person to the Superintendent. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

School Calendar

Lori Campbell moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to approve the 2024-2025 school calendar as presented. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Fine Arts Trip

Jeff Stahl moved and Matt Wood seconded the motion to approve the Fine Arts Trip to London and Dublin during the summer of 2025 for any SV HS student enrolled in the 2024-2025 school year at no cost to the district. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

Independence Day Celebration

Matt Wood moved and Lori Campbell seconded the motion to allow the Village of Harristown to use the Primary Campus for their annual Independence Day Celebration on June 29, 2024. All voted in favor. Motion carried.

The next Regular Meeting is scheduled for March 20, 2024 at 6 p.m. in the Boardroom.

Matt Wood moved and Jessica Browning seconded the motion that the meeting be adjourned at 7:29 p.m. All voted in favor. Motion carried.
