Illinois faces $800 million shortfall in proposed budget

Despite previous warnings, Illinois Democrats have utilized one-time federal aid from the pandemic to justify long-term spending on pet projects and the expansion of state programs. Now that these pandemic funds have predictably dried up, the Governor is advocating for tax increases and threatening cuts to state programs in an attempt to get his way.
